you might miss the ocean. it's stark cresting waves glimmering with highlights of the afternoon sun, the sky a dusky, seductive blue and orange screaming fire down under the earth. your body is warm and brown in its glaring eyes. the sounds of fronds are like fingers gripping and releasing sighs through the breeze that might still the coating of sweat on your neck. you will have nothing to think about. you will have nothing to dream. you are simply looking out over something more impossibly vast and invunerable than you will ever be and in the moment you are pleased to just be the shuttering of one infintesimal point in this wide green expanse of time and somehow that is enough and it settles your stomach and smoothes your hair and calms your pulse and this experience is becoming of a human being
the city often attempts to immitate the ocean. always twisting and turning, pushing and pulling, going and coming but nothing really happens, nothing at all. it's just a city with people squirming around en mass, wriggling and flittering, screaming and wailing and yet, not making much sound at all. but the city is not the ocean. it is heat and iron and it is the dust that coats your fingers and the linings of your eyes and nose, it is the gasp of your cough and the strange smells nestled in your hair. it is as smoothing as the ocean, so much so that you might lose your shape, for the city makes you soft like a globe, until you can no longer tremble and you are of perfect operation, dulcet and mild but thoughtless and casual and you made nothing by it all. you become tired, being relentlessly battered so, and you might let go and let it tumble over you with sweet tastes and tingling sensations that let you forget what the real ocean is like
but you cannot forget it, that one great body the soft calling of seacreatures crowing on salty winterwinds these sounds call you home to the water to drown although the sounds of the trains may seem lonely in this sea of people you forget what the ocean is made of it is the cradle of earth that nestles us in our beds at night it is becoming of a human being to sleep
