It comes down to basic principles that shouldn’t just be followed because consensus or tradition say we should, but because they are true in the sense that they reflect how consequences work. You shouldn’t sacrifice one group of people to give others a chance at a better future because A. people suffering is people suffering and B. you can only actually control what you yourself are doing right now. In this instance, taking the BBBs to a realm where they will be powerful and free is a goal that initially came from wanting to reduce people’s suffering and to give them a chance to be well. If the way you go about it involves (massively) increasing people’s suffering and taking away their well-being, you’re betraying your own goal. The distinction between different groups of people only justifies the trade if you’re assuming that by suffering, the BBBs have earned the right to make other people suffer. That logic is what perpetuates trauma and abuse. Shi Mei doesn’t get that the way to stop it is... to stop it, starting with yourself. The means can’t help but also be the ends.
