I think this summer im going to try to learn to roller skate properly again. I bought myself some skates years ago and learned the very basics but never really got to the point where I was comfortable on them and then put them away over winter and never got them out again. We live somewhere with many more places to skate now (and with way less shitty surfaces to skate on, lol), so i think I'd like to try again :)
If anyone has any advice for beginners, I'd love to hear it! Especially any tips on how to get the weight/pressure balance right for stops, I always ended up almost being pulled into the splits or stuttering along and nearly falling instead of actually stopping smoothly. I never did get the hang of how they are supposed to work, lol.
Also, if anyone has any tips on stretching/training the muscles in your legs and feet to avoid shin splints, etc. that would also be a huge help. I remember only really being able to skate for like 20 mins at a time bc my feet and lower legs would be in absolute agony. (Definitely not a fit problem, had them checked by two different skate fitters, plus I get the same issues when ice skating at those pop-up rinks, so i think its a technique/conditioning issue. Though my skates could also probably do with being broken in a bit more)
