Scenes of the Viking Stonehenge, Ale's stones in Sweden, from my latest film which explores the meaning of this and related monuments...https://youtu.be/2uY0VRxkQ-M
on my way to Sweden, still having deadlines to do ☠️
House Stane of Driftwood Hall
Their sigil is a driftwood tree, bare and brown, on pale green. Their words are “Sure and swift.”
Stronghold
It is the second largest keep with small towns that dot the area around Driftwood Hall. There is also a small pier jutting out into the Shivering Sea. The original hall of Driftwood Hall was primarily made from Driftwood, giving the keep it's name. Before the Northern rebellion, Driftwood Hall had a large port which was used for trade, and raids even further back in its history. After the port burned, a smaller pier was rebuilt. The only visitors now are ships from Kingshouse and the very rare ship that is brave enough to visit the supposed cannibals of Skagos to drop off Free Folk. House Stane, who have ruled over Driftwood Hall for many years, have, overtime, built the keep back up. Turning it into a small fort facing the Shivering Sea. Despite its name, Driftwood Hall is now mostly made from weathered stone, resembling most strongholds in the mainland.
People
The Driftwood region is full of talented smiths and jewelers. Their primary economy is iron working. They often trade with the Deepdown for their mined ore—iron, silver, and gold. Of the 3 noble houses, Driftwood is the most westernized. They may not kneel but they hold a lot of esteem to one’s title and birthright. These are the people you want to happen upon when first reaching Skagos. They are the most hospitable of the three noble houses to foreigners, despite the rumors that their house was responsible for Skåne’s extinction. The most notable trait of the Driftwood region are the intricate brandings and tattoos worn; and the tartan cloths worn to denote which clan each person belongs—Stane, Àst, Gelid, Hawes, Symonds, Lithia, or Himmelszelt.
House Stane is the most unique of the three nobles houses on Skagos. During the Targaryen Dynasty, they were duty bound to honor the First Night rights to the Targaryens, and even the Velaryons. (This practice has since went out since Robert’s rebellion.) Violet eyes and silver hair in the Stane bloodline is proof of this. The delicate Valeryian features along with the giantsblood makes the Stanes look otherworldly.
