So! Skam fic week happened last week and it was a whirlwind but also a blast! My plan was to write 1-2k for each prompt, but... clearly my plotbunnies had a different plan.

Thank you for your messages, some of which were even kind. I’m sorry if anyone was concerned: that’s one of my least favourite emotions, to experience but especially to cause. I know I’ve disappeared for not-great reasons before.

That’s not the case now.

I just don’t care about shift discourse that much anymore. Because when you live through it, twice (and in very different ways), you realize it’s somewhat pointless. Everyone’s experience is different, and even my experience today is different than my experience yesterday.

But let me tell you about it anyway because I’m very self-absorbed.

So, most people agree that your shift only affects you. My boyfriend pointed out that’s bullshit because if you’re not affected by what affects other people, you’re probably a narcissist. He’s not like that at all. He feels everything, maybe even more than I do.

The best part of his shift is that he sees more stars at night, more light in darkness. And now, I think I do too. With him, everything is brighter. Some will say that’s just my imagination, but so what if it is? It’s beautiful regardless.

He’s told me he feels lighter, braver, everything’s easier to share and to try--though he still won’t start his own blog. I like to think I had something to do with that.

The best part of the shift is experiencing it through your relationship. I don’t think I realized that until I lived it. 

And that’s why I want to change the tone of this blog a bit. I recognize that I’m posting from a place of privilege, and that it might be disheartening for some of you to read this story of a successful shift when it’s so different from your own. So, send me your stories, whether or not they have a happy ending. I’m not interested in theorizing about them, though of course I know people will. I just want to share them because I believe that’s how we best learn from each other.
