The only moments that made me really go Shiiitt
were the Dr. ‘s story about war and the burrowing bullets and his daughter.
for the rest it just kinda rumbled along. made me think: what’s the plot to this again?
and then i mean what there was of plot was pretty predictable. And the worldbuilding was so.....not as cold and bleak and complex as i’ve been reading (and watching) lately from sci-fi.
All the tech stuff had kind of an intriguing texture to it.
and the Events were interesting for sure. and i also had a moment of: y-i-s when Rosemary made her advance on Sissix. yessss. Intimacy! and the explanation of sex being like a good meal to Aadrinsk or whatever they’re called was interesting.
But it was so.....it was a universe with an authority that was actually genuinely quite trustworthy, expected to actually care about its citizens, and some angular laws in some places yeah but very little crime. the stance on violence and killing as Not a Good Idea was generally shared.
