A Cretan lute workshop wraps up a village festival in Hamezi, Crete. This is a traditional song in the making. The music is called “Kondyliés Fa”, which means something like “Fa Chord Strikes” and it was composed by the teacher of the lute workshop, Yannis Linardakis, to help his students practice playing in the F chord. For lyrics he used the ones from a pre-existing folk song and adjusted them to his own melody. This little practice bit has gained a lot of attention and love by Cretans and Greeks in general. I hope its popularity helps get it known and played beyond Linardakis’ music students because it’s pretty cool and it could become a new classic in folk music! From the moment I first heard it I kinda dreamed it could be the inspiration for the Cretans to figure out a dance for it.
