“falling to the dark side” is the jedi’s way of stripping agency from anybody who breaks away from them or disagrees with them, it relies on the notion that jedi beliefs are the default & that “nobody could POSSIBLY be a decent, sensible person and NOT want to be a jedi”, & that’s how they get away with othering and conquistadoring anybody who doesn’t think like them.

same energy as “believe what i believe or you’re gonna burn in hell forever” and “my ex is a crazy bitch you can’t trust anything they say”.

there’s something kind of odd about the statement that the dark side is inherently evil. and i’m not making up anything either; i never saved the post but there was something awhile ago about a jedi apologist saying how the dark side is inherently evil and it’s always bad to use it.

like, the first question is what is the dark side, then? do you follow the literal interpretation that there are two “sides” to the force, one dark and one light (aka one evil and one good), and if so, what actually differentiates the two? the only way i can think of how to divide the force into a binary is to judge how the force is used, which... that’s not actually the force itself that’s good or evil, light or dark, it’s the person and how they use it.

if you follow the ocean interpretation, and the light is the surface and the force gets “darker” the deeper you go into it, that still does not make the dark side evil, only more potent, the two aren’t synonyms.

is gravity evil because it causes people to fall to their deaths if they step off a high place? no, that’s just how gravity works.

“plagueis saw qimir and osha so that means he’s gonna kill them!!1” first off, not all sith believe in or follow rule of two, just like not every witch believe in threefold law. second, out of any sith you could learn from, plagueis may be one of the most legitimately chill of them. he doesn’t care about galactic dominance or whatever, he just believes in sith beliefs & wants to exist his way and do his cool force experiments. nothing’s set in stone, stop acting like anybody who disagrees with the jedi is doomed for suffering for daring to not agree with the jedi’s holy worldview. it was old and tired then and it’s straight up mold now. just stop.

I’m trying to get Azerith through Makeb & to make things a little more fun I’m doing Cytharat’s romance (because I haven’t done it in awhile), though it’s not in any way canon for Az.

I was thinking though about all the similarities between Cytharat’s romance with a SW, Quinn’s romance, and the general fandom portrayal of Sith romance. This recurring theme of devotion and almost worship, and... weird, eyebrow-raising power dynamics. & this is not a “if you like these things in your ships, you’re bad!” 1) I don’t have the patience for shipping discourse anymore and 2) I trust y’all’s ability to think critically and understand why these things are bad in real life.

Nah, rather what I’m getting at is what it means, then, to be an aromantic Sith, such as Azerith. Especially considering his background as a slave for a Sith family, I imagine typical Sith romance (or, at least, how it’s portrayed in propaganda/Imperial media) is... nauseating to him, to say the least. Not to mention embroiled in things that are deeply traumatic to him. Now even without the societal background that he has and his relationship towards Sith romance, he would still be aromantic, but it’s interesting to think how that would play a role in how he chooses to identify. Because I think in is context, Azerith isn’t just aromantic, he rejects the concept of romance entirely, because his exposure to what romantic relationships look like in the Empire is... not good.

It’s just very interesting, having a lot of thoughts.
