âHappy birthday!â (y/n) squealed, bursting into the boysâ dorm, all of whom had clearly just woken up and were still very groggy. She walked over to Siriusâ bed, climbing under his covers to hide from the cold November air and snuggled into his side, pressing a kiss to his cheek as she did so. âOne year older! How does it feel?â
âIt feels just the same as yesterday.â He laughed, pulling you closer as everyone else gathered around his bed, too, eager to give him their gifts. Once he had opened them all, (y/n) quickly went back to her own dormitory to get ready for the day as the boys did the same, meeting them all in the common room ready for breakfast, bringing Lily with her from their dorm this time.
The rest of the morning was spent in the common room, on the sofa in front of the fire and in the surrounding armchairs, munching on chocolate that Remus had generously donated from his stash, and drinking hot chocolate that James and (y/n) had brought up from the kitchens. Sirius had pulled (y/n) to sit in between his legs and was idly running his fingers through her hair as they all chatted to each other, about nothing in particular but whatever came into their minds.
After a while everyone stood up to go to lunch, and (y/n) ran upstairs again, coming back this time with scarves and warmer cloaks for her and Sirius. âWhy do we need all this for the Great Hall?â He asked, laughing as she handed him his things.
âMaybe weâre not going to the Great Hall.â She rolled her eyes, pulling him through the portrait hole and walking with the rest of the group to the Entrance Hall, where they all headed to the Great Hall for their lunch and (y/n) directed Sirius towards the grounds.
They walked across the grass, hand in hand, breathing in the crisp air as winter began to roll in. They stopped once they had reached the lake, and (y/n) waved her wand, a small blanket appearing on the ground in front of them, with a basket full of food resting on top.
âI thought we could have our own lunch.â She smiled, laughing as she was tackled to the floor in a hug by her boyfriend, who started peppering kisses on her face. âHappy birthday babe.â
âI love you.â He breathed, both of them sitting up but Sirius not letting her out of his arms, not that she tried very hard to move away. She waved her wand again and a small fire burned away next to them, bringing an extra source of heat to them.
They began to eat the food in the picnic basket, watching the various magical creatures fly around the forest. Once the basket was empty, (y/n) pulled a little package from inside of her robes, handing it to Sirius.
âI hope you like it.â She said hopefully, biting her lip anxiously as he unwrapped his present and opened the lid on the box to find a simple silver chain, one pendant hanging from it. He lifted it out, holding the small pawprint in his hand, engraved with the Canis Major constellation.
âIâŠâ he started, staring at it. âI donât know what to say.â
âIâm sorry, is it too much? I knew it was a risk to put your star on there, I know you donât like to think of your family all that much, but I wanted to remind you of where you came from, of who they wanted you to be, and how far youâve come since then. Youâre brilliant Sirius, you truly are in every sense of the word, and you should be as proud of yourself as I am of you.â She barely had time to finish her explanation before Siriusâ lips were on her own, cutting her off but telling her all the words he couldnât say. When they broke apart, he brought the chain over his head, letting the pendant rest on his chest as he tucked it underneath his robes.
He looked up, his eyes connected with hers, and he basked in the pure, deep, overpowering love he felt within him. âMarry me.â He spoke, smiling at the way she threw her head back in laughter.
âWeâre a little young, donât you think Siri?â
âIt doesnât matter, I know Iâm going to spend the rest of my life with you, youâre the one Iâm always going to be with.â The puppy look in his eyes told her exactly how much he meant his words, and her laughter continued at his adorableness, placing her hands in his and squeezing.
âI think I would be murdered if I got engaged before graduating, but ask me again in a few years and I can promise you Iâll say yes.â
They sat there for a few minutes in comfortable silence, needing no words for each other, until Sirius got a mischievous glint in his eye and turned to look at (y/n), jerking his head towards the lake. âWanna swim?â
