taking elsa’s hand is instinctual,   she only processes that she’s holding it when she registers the coolness of her skin.   it’s not an uncomfortable cool,   it’s...   soothing;   like a rare cold drink after a long day in the paelsian sun.   “   i will not leave you.   ”   it’s a simple statement,   steadfast and ringing with promise.   no one could have predicted how she would feel about this queen with magic in her veins,   least of all lysandra herself.   but from the moment elsa had saved her life,   which she had been willing to sacrifice to protect jonas,   she’d known she would follow her anywhere.   it’s just the two of them sitting by the fire,   everyone else is asleep for the time being.   how many nights of their travels had they sat here,   now?   she’s lost count.   at first,   she only spoke to her out of a grudging thanks for saving her life,   having discovered that she was a royal,   but as she got to know the other woman she began to look forward to their conversations.   her bow rests on her lap and quiver is leaning on the log next to her,   since it’s technically her watch.   absently,   she trails a finger of her free hand along the curve of her bow.   “   i may not have magic,   and i may not know exactly what destroying those stones is going to entail,   but i swear to you that you won’t be alone.   ”   her serious expression softens into a smile and she gives the queen’s hand a squeeze.   “   i do owe you a life debt,   after all,   and my people take that very seriously.   ”

Vera watched Elsa hesitantly. As if she would bite her if she made any sudden movements, or run away if she got too close. Vera had moments similar to this, where she found herself teetering too close to the dark and fearing that she would never find herself again. “Elsa, listen to me.” Her voice was low and firm. “You’re not yourself right now. Just, calm down and we can work through this.”
