Family History/Dynamics (tw death, alcoholism, toxic masculinity, me just rambling for no reason): Jason Macavoy was a consequence—a byproduct of too much booze and too little inhibition. He never knew the guy who knocked Heidi Macavoy up all those years ago and altered their lives forever. She was disowned by the Macavoy's when they learned she was pregnant with a bastard kid forcing Heidi to fend for herself until the day she took off. Jason was six and hasn't heard from her since. After his mother left, Jason had little to no contact with the rest of the Macavoy’s. He only met his grandparents a few times during one of Heidi's desperate, unannounced visits for cash. I like to think Jason got in contact with his uncle later on in life or there is potential for him to get in contact with him in the future. Therefore, Jason was raised by the man he calls his step-father, Tommy Fowler, who was Heidi's long time on again, off again boyfriend. Their relationship was as unconventional at best. Tommy's idea of a bedtime story was the clatter of pool balls and the smell of stale beer at the local dive. Breakfast was served between early morning runs and reps at bag. And training wasn't over until his knuckles were bleeding, Tommy's voice a low growl of 'Pain's just weakness leavin' the body, kid.' Even in his own rough and tumble way, Tommy did his best—kept Jason fed and in line most of the time, showed up to his fights and got him into the UFC. He taught him how to drive and how to bank the cue ball and sink a shot into the corner pocket. He'd curse out those damn Yankees with him and sneak him into the nosebleeds because Tommy always knew a guy. Half-shit faced and grumbling— sure, but he was there. Tommy was there right up until the day he died and the bottle got the better of him. But if you ask Jason who his family is now, he'll tell you it's the MC and the Cole's. Those are the people who truly raised him, and turned a punk-ass kid with too much fight into a man. They didn’t back down when Jason showed them his teeth. They never asked him to change or tried to douse the fight Tommy had instilled in him. Instead, they asked him to use it—to aim it. They asked him to be brutal. And to Jason, that felt like belonging, like he found a way to put his restless fists to good use and to do it for people who gave a shit about him. It felt like family—honest, reliable, real. A stability an asshole kid could hold onto and count on. Because Jason learned a long ass time ago that blood never made a family—loyalty did.
