Sooo! I have finished The Stranger and Demian!
While I think The Stranger is the better book, I loved Demian a lot more.
So next up is Wuthering Heights and then I think Moby Dick, I gotta wait for Moby Dick until my friend finishes it because I read pretty fast compared to them so if I start now I may upset them if I finish it first. If my friend doesn't finish Moby Dick after I finish Wuthering Heights (which I doubt she wouldn't) I'll probably just read Crime and Punishment!
If any of you who have read Demian and/or The Stranger I'd like to hear your opinion or how you think they compare against each other

I donāt understand Kanamafu as a ship (I donāt know what kind of relationship they have) but Iām thinking about the similarities between Mafuyu and Meursaultā¦ I really like that type of character (theyāre just like me frā¦)
Thinking deeperā¦ they feel like two aros with one misunderstanding that they need to be romantic partners while the other donāt feel and donāt care. They should break up š and become friendships between two queers instead (not queer platonic).
Actually, from personal experience (of being a system), and analysing Koufuku Kei, I feel like Kanadeās the type to dissociate all memories of any relationship as soon as itās over. They should cover Somebody I Used To Know. And this feeling of happiness gap. Where one person got better in a relationship while the other remains miserable.
Kind of ashamed to say this š«£ but Shou kins Mafuyu and Meursault, and he naturally likes Kanade. Thatās where Iām even getting all these readings from. Woah imagining saying something sappy like āyou are my other halfā completely aromanticallyā¦. Just. Them.
I come here to interpret shit wrongly and I wonāt get better. š
Think about Meuricho. I guess. Name pending. Pre-LCDT Jericho was very different from how he is now. We were going through a crisis in feeling like weāll never amount to anything, and also like being the only one that keeps feeling bad over injustice and stuff happening in the world while everyone is okay. Makes one feel so meaningless.
So Jericho latched onto Meursault like āI like that youāre indifferent, itās grounding.ā Heās our designated āhappy alterā so he doesnāt know how to handle being angry or sad that bad things are happening. He has a lot of love for people but heās always an outsider, like a castaway god. That part is really crucial to his character I think, because for humans, while they enjoy the special attention of a god, ultimately chooses to be with another human because they canāt be on the same level as gods.
So he probably sees himself in Meursault who is rejected by humans the same way. Just used to grant a wish and be a convenient tool for someone. Itās also hard to explain why he relates to Marie so much when most people barely acknowledge Marie to be a character on her own. The idea is that theyāre both just very normal I guess.
As much the world tried to paint Meursault to be an abnormal existence, with Marie he is just normal. Like the world convinces you that youāre unlovable, but another personās mere existence reminds you that youāre not. I am a sucker for that kind of stuff. š
Oh and also the demonisation of sexuality surrounding Meursault. Why does he gotta be chastised for wanting sex when itās probably the most straightforward manner of communication? Just bodies touching in place of verbal communication. And just the fact that he knows Marie likes him back and consents to his presence despite everything š¢š¢š¢ thereās no need to be forced to speak. thatās what heās sensitive about in game tooā¦.
Been thinking about how Spring Cultivation confirmed my hypothesis when it released, that Meursault is completely capable of expressing emotions in a neurotypical way, he just chooses not to because he sees no practical use for it. I was pointing at my screen like !!!! Gender performativity, disabled masking, all of that good stuff. I just relate to it so much. Lifeās but a game and heās just running the most optimised strat at all times. I hope to see him have genuine fun post canto.
