It really brings out all the little skin imperfections when strategically setting up lights. * This 3d sculpture has about 20-30 million polygons. Here's a series of images we made using a wonderfully made model by @adamskutt. * we used this sculpture to study lighting techniques, along with materials and texturing. * The focus was to show off the models high detail using rim and subtle natural fill lights. * I like using a setup based off the traditional 3 point light and adding lights as needed. It allows you more range and keeping the subject from looking flat.. as I find using a dome light and/or global illumination alone tends to be. * You can see subtle subsurface scattering in certain areas of the body.
