The sound of chatter, scanner beeping, grocery cart rolling across the hard floor, and the sound of Lily babbling in the cart about fruit snacks fill my ears.
I pushed the cart down the baby food aisle looking for the baby puffs.
“No mama fruit snack” Lily whined.
“Baby we will get fruit snacks soon. So banana or blueberry?” I asked the 2 year old.
“Fruit snack”
I groaned putting the banana flavor in the cart and pushed the cart to the snack aisle as Lily said hi to random people we passed.
“Mama out” Lily said as she grabbed at my shirt. I lifted her out of the cart and showed her the fruit snacks. “Barbie!” she said pointing to the Barbie fruit snacks.
I picked up the box and looked at the price. $4.97. I sighed and put the box in the cart anyway.
“Mama walk.”
“Okay baby but you stay by mommy, okay?” I told her before putting her down.
As soon as I put her down she ran down the aisle to a man. He was about 6’3, had a buzz cut, and was wearing jeans, and dirty t-shirt, and a pair of boots. Clearly just from work.
“Hi mister” Lily said pulling on his jeans.
“Oh hi. Uhm where your mommy sweeite” the man said looking down at her.
I walked up behind Lily and picked her up. “Hey I said you stay by mommy. I’m so sorry sir, I promise she usually doesn’t do that. Lily say sorry” I said looking up at him.
Gosh he was hot. But probably has a wife waiting for him at home.
“I’m sorry.” Lily said hiding her face in my neck.
“Oh it’s fine i promise. Thank you sweetie for saying sorry though.” He said leaning down to look at the two of us.
“Are you sure?” I asked.
“Gosh you’re acting like she threw up on me or something.” He laugh.
“I’m sorry, I’m just embarrassed.” I say as I feel my face become warm.
“You’re okay I promise.” He says has a puts and arm on my shoulder.
“Okay uhm well I better get going before she starts to get crabby. Say bye Lily”
“Bye bye mister” Lily said lifting her head out of my neck.
“Bye lily.” The man says giving her a nice smile. “And bye to you too”
“Bye” I said sweetly before walking away.
I pushed the cart towards the front of the store to the check out area.
2 weeks later
It was 6:50 pm and I hired one of the neighbor girls to babysit Lily tonight. I was finally getting a long awaited girls night out. All I knew it’s that I was being picked up in 20 minutes and we were going to a local bar.
“Okay she goes to bed at 7, she going to ask for fruit snacks but don’t give them to her, she sleeps with the fan on, and she needs her blankie to fall asleep. You can have anything just no alcohol and please no people here other than your mom” I told the 15 year old girl.
“Okay!”
I walked down the hallway to Lily’s room to see her playing with her dolls. “Lily baby mommy’s leaving. You be good for Natalie okay.” I said giving her a kiss on the head.
“Okay mommy. Bye bye” she said as she played with her dolls.
I sighed and walked out of her room back and back to the living room.
“Thank you again! Uhm there 40 dollars on the table for you and an extra 20 if you want to order anything” I say before there’s two honks outside. “Bye thank you again Natalie!”
I walked out the door and try my best to run to the car in my heels. I get in the passenger seat and I’m immediately welcomed by my three friends.
“Okayyyyyy!”
“You look sexy girl”
“Oh you are definitely getting a man tonight”
“Oh I wish” I said smacking the brunettes arm.
After a 5 minute drive we finally arrive the the bar. We all rush to the bar and immediately start ordering drinks.

It’s been 3 hours of dancing and downing drinks and I have an hour left before I have to get home. The 3 of my friends were all grinding on random men they found around the bar.
I left the dance floor and found my way to the bar. I walked up next to random guy who was watching whatever was on the tv. He had a buzz cut and looked at lot like the guy from the grocery store.
“I’m sorry, do I know you? You just look really familiar” I asked him putting my hand on his arm.
The man turned his head towards me and immediately smiled.
“Hey I saw you at the store a few weeks ago. The one Lily ran at. I’m Rafe.”
“Oh my gosh hi! Nice to meet you I’m Y/n! I’m still so sorry about her.” I said rubbing his arm.
“No it’s okay! Uhm I actually wanted to ask you a question” he said making eye contact with me.
“What’s up?”
“Uhm are you with anybody?” He asked me.
“Well I’m here with my friends.” I said pointing over to my friends.
“No like dating wise”
“Oh uhm no I haven’t dated anyone for like 3 years now” I said feeling my warm up again.
“Ok. Uh I was wondering if I could get your number. I want to take you out sometime.”
“Of course!” I said taking my phone out of my purse.
He takes my phone and puts his number in my phone.
“Text me when you get home alright” he said as he gave my phone back.
“Do you think you could actually bring me home? I need to get back to Lily and I don’t think they would want to leave so early.” I asked him quietly.
“Of course do you want to go now?” He said standing up.
“That would be great actually!” I take his hand and walk over to my friends. “Hey uh I’m going to go back.”
“Ooo we see you girl.”
“Be safe baby!”
“Wear a condom this time. You saw what happened last time.”
“I will be safe and he’s only taking me home.” I give them all hugs goodbye and Rafe leads me to his truck.
“Here you can out your address in my phone.” He said handing me his phone. I put my address in quickly and give it back to him.
During the car ride back we have a nice conversation and got to know each other more. We soon arrive to my apartment complex.
“Thank you so much rafe” I lean over the center console and give him a kiss in the cheek. “Get home safe” I say before getting out of the car.
