She’d done her best to find the most secluded place available, where only sheep were around to witness her attempts. Her gems had fallen uselessly at her feet, only glittering in the sunlight, not the missiles she was hoping for. It was almost like there was no mana in them at all, but she never carried gems like that... Her gems were always charged, always ready.
She aimed her index finger, carefully pointed at a tree, trying to summon up enough mana to cast Gandr, but nothing happened. No matter how hard she tried to focus, the blast never fired.
“What’s with this place?” she huffed irritably, dropping her arms to her sides. “Does it have some kind of bounded field dampening magic here?” She was so used to it being at her beck and call... well, at least she had learned self-defense. Another grumble left her lips and she stooped down to pick up the gems she’d thrown, freezing when she glanced over and saw that she wasn’t alone.
“Oh,” she began, attempting to cover up her surprise, as if she hadn’t just been trying to do something that was supposed to remain secret. “How long have you been standing there?”
