I'm in a discord chat with fantastic writers who will be participating in NaNoWriMo 2019. We get asked daily questions (as a preptober event) by the wonderful Anne. You might know her as @nepeinthe. I chose to post my answers on tumblr because, as you can see, I write a lot and I didn't want to clog the chat.
QUESTION OF THE DAY: which oc of yours is your favorite to write, and why? tell us about the oc!!
ANSWER: anyone familiar with me knows that I tend to jump from one wip to the other, and consequently, from character to character. Short answer would be: all of them. I don't write ocs that don't interest me. There are characters I dislike and/or don't care about, but I don't count those as ocs, only as cardboard cutouts of people to enrich the setting.
Long answer: Depending on my mood, writing my ocs can be the easiest thing in the world, or a freaking nightmare. Say I'm in an emotional mood, I'll work on Asura: Academy which is military fiction/dieselpunk/dark academia. Say someone made ma angry in real life, my outlet would be House of the Sun, where my ocs tend to say shit like:
"A pretender, a foreigner and a pirate whore." Anakir spits, usually able to contain his thoughts. Wine and the Banir name tended to make him lose the little self-control he possessed. "Who comes after? Those camel-fucking Amtrak?"
"Quiet!" I hiss, narrowing my eyes. "Or I will wring your fucking neck, you mad cow."
But by far my favorite ocs to write are the passionate ones. The ones whose hearts burn with such fervor I can feel the heat on my fingertips writing them. I like them, the good and the bad, who speak words that could knock the readers' breaths out of their chests and whose actions leave everyone in their wake with shaky legs and stumbling for a chair to support them.
I'll soon be posting about my wips and ocs, starting with my favorites!
