What's a good way to distinguish between someone's use of Ti versus Te, if the person's evenly balanced in their usage of Fi/Fe due family arguments/dynamics forcing them to consider both perspectives? I'm trying to type a close relative who's either an ESFP (Fi/Te) or ESTP (Ti/Fe) here. Any further advice on typing them would be appreciated.
People who use any thinking functions as their dominant or auxiliary are searching for logic, but their methods and reason for doing so will be different.
I get upset when there's a lack of logic, because it's inefficient. It wastes my time. I like to have an external system in place to expedite the processes by which I do things. That's my logic, that's my Te.
My coworker is an INTP. He always wants to know why. He can't deal with the world around him if he doesn't know the logistics of it. He wants internal systems to understand the world through analysis. That's his logic, that's his Ti.
What you'll want to look for is a dominance of logic leaning more towards my coworker's. If that's present, in addition to a tendency towards charisma and being at least somewhat able to read the people around them, it's probably Ti/Fe.
If not, and they tend to move around on a basic moral structure, but also tend to put the world around them in a logical order so that they can move through their world with greater ease, it's probably Fi/Te.
Could you do examples of unhealthy/healthy ISFP movie characters? Also, may I ask why you said the Joker from the 1989 Batman was healthy?
1989 Joker was an ESFP, right?
Bad person. But his functions aren't unhealthy and they're all developed fairly well.
Se is fed by Ni -- Whether he'd note it or not, he's got a plan. He takes every step as it comes, but it's all feeding into this vague plan he's got.
He's got a moral code that he follows. It's evil, and self-serving, and he's really focused on his own emotions and well-being, but he follows his moral code. His Te allows him to be efficient and know what he's doing, and even plan huge parades.
He's probably the best example of why a healthy type does not mean a good person.
Though I was also very, very tired last night so it also could have been a mistake. Reflecting? That's my answer.
Healthy ISFPs:
Wes Gibbins (How to Get Away With Murder)
Kate Freelander (Sanctuary)
Becca (Pitch Perfect)
Unhealthy ISFPs:
Cassie Ainsworth (Skins)
Jafar (Aladdin)
Allison Reynolds (The Breakfast Club)
could you type its always sunny if you ever watched it... i have a tough time typing the main characters
I’ve seen a few seasons of it… It’s difficult to type comic relief characters, I find, because they’re not necessarily good representations of any specific thought process, they’re just funny. In It’s Always Sunny, they’re all comic relief characters, which makes it tough. I’ll do my best:
Dennis: ENTJDee: ESFPMac: ESTPCharlie: ENFPFrank: ENTP
That’s the best I’ve got. I’d be willing to take arguments on any of them.
Could you give some fictional characters that are healthy ENTPs, ENTJs and ESFPs? and can you give examples of unhealthy INFJs and INFPs? thank you
Healthy ENTPs:
Henry Foss (Sanctuary)
Lucius Fox (Batman)
Fred Weasley (Harry Potter)
George Weasley (Harry Potter)
Jim Halpert (The Office)
Zero Moustafa (Grand Budapest Hotel)
Healthy ENTJs:
Peggy Carter (Marvel)
Raymond Holt (Brooklyn Nine-Nine)
Rocket Raccoon (Marvel)
Enjolras (Les Misérables)
Beatrice (Over the Garden Wall)
Nick Fury (Marvel)
Healthy ESFPs:
Aurora (Maleficent)
Greg (Over the Garden Wall)
Gina Linetti (Brooklyn Nine-Nine)
Nyota Uhura (Star Trek)
Legolas (Lord of the Rings)
Joker (Batman 1989)
Unhealthy INFJs:
The Beast (Over the Garden Wall)
Hannibal Lecter (NBC Hannibal)
Will Graham (All versions of the Lecter series)
Unhealthy INFPs:
Will Zimmerman (Sanctuary)
Marius Pontmercy (Les Misérables)
Gollum (Lord of the Rings)
Note: This is in terms of the functions. It’s got nothing to do with how good/bad the characters are, morally.

Can you type the characters from Brooklyn Nine Nine?
YES I love this show? There's several characters that are just so typically their types.
Jake Peralta - ENTPRaymond Holt - ENTJAmy Santiago - ISTJRosa Diaz - ISTPGina Linetti - ESFPTerry Jeffords - ESFJCharles Boyle - ISFJHitchcock - INTPScully - INFP
Simon, could you type the characters of Over the Garden Wall? <:
Yea.
Wirt - ISFP
Greg - ESFP (Important to remember that Greg is a child, though, so that may change over time)
Beatrice - ENTJ
Woodsman - ISFJ
The Beast - INFJ
The rest weren’t really recurring, so I’ll not type them. But if there’s anyone specific let me know.
I'm having trouble typing one of my friends, at first I thought he was an ESFJ but now I'm thinking he might an ESFP? Do you know any questions I could ask him that will help me type him?
I'd recommend investigating Si v. Se -- It tends to be easier than investigating Fe v. Fi, because the two can show as one another (Though please note that Fe users tend to have a natural key-in to the emotions of others).
I don't know of any way you could casually ask him for information, unless you asked him how he decided on something (Especially like a career or course of study), or why he believes in something he believes in (Like, a moral belief), that might give you some tip-offs.
