I’ve spent the day watching Sharp Objects and it’s been the most disturbing thing I’ve seen all year and I don’t think I could make it through the book and Amy Adams is so fucking amazing but holy god I’m glad they’re not making another season

It's one of my favorite books. I ended up owning two copies. As a recovering SM I found it beautiful and horrifying and was just glad someone addressed the issue. Can't wait to watch it.
I have to be honest, I have never had any sort of experiences with these issues. So I knew nothing, and yes, Sharp Objects did educate me, a little. But it also hit me with the reality of it. While that was needed, it wasn’t nice. Because of that, I really don’t think my mental health is in a good enough place for me to be able to read the book.
Be careful if you end up watching the show, please. It is damn good and beautiful, but the feeling of it is very unsettling. The beautiful cinematography, video editing that is sometimes very fast, eerie music, paired with the disturbing plot told from the point of view of a person who is struggling (hard) with their mental health, they all work together to make the viewer feel very uncomfortable. Not exactly scared, but half-way there.
And that’s not even taking into account the very detailed and harsh and in-your-face shots of self harm. Not just self harm, but there are also dead bodies that are disturbing, results of murders and suicides. But the self harm is the biggest issue. If you get triggered by it, be careful and know that they show it. They show scars, they show open wounds, they show the process of self-harming. Please be careful, friend.
There’s no doubt about it, this tv show will not make you feel incredibly good. I just hope it won’t make you feel incredibly bad.
My demons are not remotely tackled, they're just mildly concussed.
