#sim adapter

My day to day work phone is an iPhone 5 which alone in the market uses a nano-sim. The smallest of all sims. Most other phones on the market these days are using the micro-sim. 

For me to use my nano-sim into other smartphones without having my carrier change physical sim cards each time I found the most amazing invention ever, a sim card adapter.

This handy packet allowed me to take my nano sim and turn it into a micro-sim or even the full size sim. The adapters had a groove for the nano sim to "sit" in and work just perfectly.

When the Galaxy S4 arrived I was very excited to throw my nano-sim into the adapter and make it my primary phone. I dont believe any review can be true unless you make it your day to day phone.

Once I finished the review I had to switch back to the iPhone as it is what I am meant to use for work Monday to Friday. So I remove the sim and adapter, take the nano-sim, throw it into the iPhone again and put the sim adapter (empty) back into the S4 for safe keeping.

This way when I wanted to switch back to the S4 on the following Friday afternoon I didnt need to worry about forgetting the adapter.

Friday morning came and I actually had been sent a Nokia Lumia 520 to review which needed a micro-sim. No problem, I open the S4 and proceed to eject the adapter from the S4. The S4 ejected slightly but when I tried to pull it out of the sim tray slot it was stuck.

The empty adapters grove (which normally houses the nano-sim) had grabbed the sim card pins. These pins are what the S4 uses to connect and read your sim card. 

Tip: don't store an empty sim adapter in the sim tray. Just don't.

From here it was all bad, there is nothing good  that can come of this. A slight pull on the adapter and what came out was the adapter and a few small pieces of gold. The gold contacts of the sim slot were out and broken right off.

In what I knew would be the case I immediately put my nano-sim into the adapter to try it anyway. Put it in, booted the S4 up and my worst nightmare was realised. The S4 can no longer see sim cards.

So what is the lesson here?

Adapters are great, they allow me to use my sim card in any phone. BUT NEVER EVER store a sim adapter EMPTY in a sim tray.
