They have such potential,,, especially post-Generations. Like, Mephiles has been in the torture dimension for like a decade by this point and not only does Silver remember the people involved with 06 canonically, he's not gonna be entirely unwilling to forgive him and at this point Mephiles needs him to survive. What is the soul when you start to lose your identity? Like that very well could kill him. And Silver in turn needs someone who won't be changed by the shifting future or by his own affect on the timeline or anything like that, he needs someone that he knows will stay and that he knows will never forget him. augh these two
