#silverv thoughts

i will truly never get over just how beautiful silverv is written. like getting to see “the johnny silverhand” in action, catching glimpses of a man who’s just…well let’s be honest, not a good man. he treats alt like shit, treats rouge like shit, and treats kerry and the rest of his band pretty much like shit too. he left kerry without so much as a goodbye—all just to go on an arasaka bombing run. we see him literally pick alt over rouge and then turn around to beg rouge for her help in saving alt.

like of course johnny is an unreliable narrator and you can’t really take his word on everything but— i think some truth lies within. and i think we get to see it as he genuinely changes because of v.

and yeah you could argue that it’s just the construct and yada yada but the construct was created with the data of rocker-boy johnny silverhand on it. it’s data of his angry, former self right after blowing up arasaka. it’s his personality from when he was in the war— data literally created with him wrapped all up in a bundle of rage…so why does he change? he didn’t change for kerry. didn’t change for rouge and never got the chance to change for alt. i mean sure the relic’s data could be written to adapt and evolve, and i don’t know if it did evolve or if it could, i’m not sure but still. i genuinely just think v is the one who changes johnny. johnny’s engram is supposed to completely take over v, and while it clearly does throughout the game(and ofc this is all a special circumstance bc the relic’s data believes v was dead before it started taking over their psyche etc etc), it wasn’t supposed to be the other way around. and v doesn’t take control of the relic or anything, i know, i mean it in a way that instead of johnny’s relic outright taking over, v somehow changed johnny’s data as it ate away at v themselves. the instructions for the relic were clear and yet…when we, the player, meet johnny, he was very much that asshole from his former glory days come back to life again— where he literally threatens to kill v and just take the body…multiple times…but by the time v and johnny find his unmarked grave, johnny has changed.

he, in the softest tone we’ve heard from johnny up until this point, tells v that they’re the closest person to him by a long shot. how he’s always been such an asshole and used every person in his life for his own selfish needs but it’s v that ends up being the only one who gives a shit about him. and now he truly desires to be the person to save v, even as the relic is in the process of actively killing v against their will. he was so upset about the thought of fucking up what v and he had, and when you point it out that he almost did fuck that up? he’s scared of losing v. asks for a second chance, begs v to let him make things right! for the both of them. definitely something the old johnny would have NEVER done. (not to mention the ost during this scene? god, how hauntingly beautiful it is. also it gives off this vibe of how truly lonely johnny is and would be w/o v.)

and then there’s v. sitting on some rusty-dusty piece of metal, carving johnny’s initials into said metal just to leave something behind of him, whether he was buried there or not; v still made it apparent that they cared for johnny. and proving it even further when johnny asks what they would really write, if he had a proper burial and headstone. and without hesitation v tells him, after everything they’ve been through— the hurt, the venom laced words, wanting each other dead—“the guy who saved my life.”. and you could argue that v just means the relic saving them from the bullet dex dishes into their head but i truly think it’s so much deeper than that. after everything? johnny lying? cursing v’s every waking second? using v for his own selfishness—his old self—and v still picks the moment johnny literally saved their life? like v could have very easily instead made a joke about the situation. or tell johnny they’d write something harmful or meaningless on his grave to get back at johnny for all the shit he’s put them through but no! with their own soft voice, they tell johnny the one good thing he’s done in his “life”, sitting atop his “grave”, is that he saved them.

idk i have so many silverv thoughts because they’re written plain as day as soulmates. like platonic, romantic or whatever, they’re soulmates— literally meant to be. if it had been anyone else’s head, johnny might not have become someone “different” from his former self. and v would still have their life, sure, but even then they changed too; changing from wanting johnny dead to panicking at the thought of johnny not being there with them?

having more silverv thoughts and i have to share them.

i know the scene at johnny’s grave is THE silverv turning point, with johnny and v both showing off how much they truly care for each other but—that moment at the hotel with johnny when he decides to give v his dog tags???? god i love that moment too. esp with how johnny calls the tags “proof” of him turning over a new leaf; where he intends to save v instead of just letting them die. and i really think it’s such a HUGE gesture, especially coming from johnny! and not even solely because of his physical promise to v but because of what the dog tags once represented.

johnny fought in the corpo war. he was a blind follower under arasaka’s boot for a long time. hell! his robotic arm is arasaka made. he was a soldier. he tells v how he rotted inside that hotel room for days, or even weeks, realizing what a terrible human being he’s become under arasaka and just how horrible corpos truly are.

and yet— something he resents so much, he changes into something for the better. the dog tags once were proof of his rage. his blind, ignorant rage for arasaka, for the war, but mainly the rage he felt towards himself. johnny truly hated himself at this point in his life. it was his own pivotal moment in life where he, then and there, would take a stand against corpos. so much rage embedded in the metal tags but there he is; offering them up, his own twisted hate, to v. but with an entirely new meaning.

he offers the tags not only in proof of wanting to save v but in proof that he cared more for them than he let on. changing the tags meaning from his promise of rage to turning them into something v could have to think of HIM. to think of him at that moment. where any time the metal lay flat on v’s skin or when v would absentmindedly fiddle with the tags; johnny wanted them to not think of how angry he used to be, or how much he genuinely despised himself—he wanted v to think of this new side of him. this softer, caring side where he promised to give up his own “life”(so to speak ofc) so that v may live. the greatest sacrifice anyone could accomplish and johnny was willing to do it, for v! never rouge or alt or kerry or anyone else that mattered in his life, no, for v.

and it’s almost funny how johnny shows his feelings before this moment too. how as soon as v had passed out from the relic induced seizure, his first thoughts were to, not only save v, but to take them to the hotel where he had stashed his rage. knowing in that moment that he wanted to give up his tags as proof of his literal physical devotion to v. and god he was entirely devoted to v the minute he dragged the body to that hotel room. not only to serve as a place where v would be safe while they were incapacitated from said relic malfunction—but to also prove to v how much he was willing to change FOR v. because he cared so much about them even if he couldn’t really find the right words to say it.

knowing he took what was once his rage for arasaka, the war, the loss of the people closest to him during this time; took it all and instead turned it into his desire to protect and save v. and his rage is definitely not something easily given up on, which is clear throughout the game.

Above all, the context of the fact that he shares the same body and that Johnny can take V's body at any time. 😤

oh i so think johnny has always been a little bit of a yandere… like him and alt? ughh he treated alt like shit but would get so mad at her if she tried to call things off and would beg for her forgiveness like he did NOT want to see her with anyone else!!

also rouge later like? he always thought rouge would be the type to just wait for him…no matter what kinda bs he put her through she’d just be there…and then she wasn’t? and he was so upset? omg

johnny in the beginning being a little bit of an asshole but not enough to get v to truly hate him

i def think he’d high jack the body just to run off romantic interest and blame it on a relic malfunction later

also 100% gets into fist fights while in v’s body when trying to scare off others and later when v’s cleaning up their bloody nose, johnny makes it out to be like he was protecting them,,,,, when he 100% started the fight 😭

but since v can’t remember what happens during a relic malfunction (normally) he so retells v everything in a much softer light,, getting them to like him wayyy more than if they knew the truth

is SOO quick to get jealous and possessive too like esp in later game!!

like after the grave scene i just know johnny is so clingy omg

him muttering constantly how much he cares for v and is just “looking out for them” when a problem arises

possessive johnny telling v that only he is capable of treating them like they deserve

that only he was right for them!!

him whispering in v’s ear like “they’re using you ya know? i would never do that to ya.” and it’s something simple like judy asking v for a little help

doesn’t matter really who it is— if he catches a hint of v flirting, he acts like a rotten brat
