It’s easy to mistake a Lindley’s false silverpuff (Uropappus lindley) for a common dandelion: they both produce a single yellow flower, both have milky sap, and both have fluffy seed heads that disperse in the wind.

But the silverpuff has a distinctive silvery, five-pointed wings (the pappus, which act as parachutes for the attached seeds). They’re native to California and support birds, rodents, butterflies, and bees.
