i love you and your thoughts on black sails and particularly on james/miranda are TRULY A BREATH OF FRESH AIR. love that they're your OTP you are truly a person of Quality™. i know i shouldn't care, because i should be jaded and fandom is always fandom, but it GRATES ON ME the way she is diminished from the james x thomas x miranda trio and even more how her relationship w james and the importance of it and her on his life is just brushed aside WHEN THAT IS THE REAL SHIT. I AM RUINED OVER YOU.
Ahhh thank you!! It’s really nice to find other people that appreciate this ship, tbh (and Miranda, period).
After I finish the show (which might take longer than I’d like because of IRL responsibilities, smh), I really want to do a rewatch --to post edits too, among other things-- and I know I’ll have even more to say about it, but I find myself almost unable to articulate it properly; I’m drowning in feelings for them. YOU ARE RUINED OVER HER, FLINT?!? I AM RUINED OVER YOU TWO, ASSHOLES.
And ugh, yeah. I’ve made the decision to stay a little away from the Flint/Hamiltons and Flint/Thomas side of fandom, because I suspect I will find a lot of that and I don’t want to end up resenting them for it :/. I just don’t want to see them act as if Miranda wasn’t a key part of it and extremely important to Flint? Fandom is fandom but I can choose to ignore it xD
This might be biased LOL, but it also feels qualitatively different from Flint/Silver shippers simply choosing to focus on their otp, iykwim? Partially because Miranda doesn’t have a strong tie with that relationship, so if she’s not included*, it doesn’t feel like a dig on her. Partially, because it’s not canon, at least not explicitly, so it exists in the realm of “fanon” and I take a different approach there; but also, ironically, because the way canon tracks makes them the two key characters and the central relationship of the show and-- ofc they’d naturally flock to it (and if I saw one shitting on my ship, it’s easier to dismiss it than in the ot3 fandom because it just seems more present and pervasive there).
Meanwhile, even if I like it, I think Flint/Thomas is a plot device and that Thomas is a one-dimensional character I feel I barely know (while Miranda is a fully fleshed-out person on her own in my eyes). That’s not saying he’s a bad character or ship --it does a lot for me in terms of Flint’s narrative, for one. Making it a QUEER narrative necessarily transforms it and I love it--, but I understand there are certain negative connotations to “plot device” and “one-dimensional character” going on here. However, I use them with the most neutral of intentions.
*That hasn’t stopped me from starting YET ANOTHER WIP centered in Flint/Miranda/Silver, btw :)))). Post-s2 Miranda Lives AU, with both her and Silver recovering from life-altering injuries. I’ll likely include Madi in their shenanigans at some point; certainly Madi/Silver, maybe more combos. I thought you might be interested in hearing this xD
