I want the K.
7. Romantic Kiss
Oikawa watched the clock in silence, one finger tapping at the wood surface of the table before him. It was 4:15pm, and the last train back to Miyagi prefecture for the day was leaving at 5:25pm. His things, a neatly packed suitcase and duffle bag, sat beside the door, ready to be picked up at a momentâs notice. He was ready to leave, but still he waited.
Sugawaraâs train wasnât until morning, and maybe Sugawara had made plans with one of his friends. Maybe, knowing the flat would be empty that night, heâd stopped somewhere to pick up his own dinner.
Itâs not that important, Oikawa reminded himself, just in case Sugawara didnât show up.
They would both be in Miyagi for the summer, after all. They could meet up there. Sugawara was leaving for Miyagi in the morning, so at the very worst maybe they could meet up the next evening. It really, really wasnât a big deal.
Oikawa tapped at the table again, sighing. He removed his phone from his pocket and turned his attention to it instead. âHeâs usually home by now,â Oikawa remarked out loud, tapping now at the screen. âHow strange.â
When he looked at the time again it was 4:47pm. Standing up, Oikawa shoved his phone into his pocket. He wasnât disappointed. Not at all. And his heart most certainly didnât leap into his throat when, lifting his duffle bag, he heard a key turn in the doorâs lock.
He wondered if he looked as ecstatic as he felt, because Sugawara looked confused to see him, frowning and looking at the packed suitcase still on the floor. âYou havenât left yet?â he asked, and Oikawa answered with a smile.
"I was waiting for you!" came his reply. This was it. He was going to do it. Humming to steel his nerves, Oikawa reached out to gently cup Sugawaraâs face in his hands. "I wanted to get my birthday present before I left."
There was a flash of guilt in the eyes before him, and Oikawa bit back a chuckle. âOh, IâŚâ Forgot. He didnât need to say the word; Oikawa could read it in the frantic way he shifted his weight and refused to meet his gaze.
"I didnât," Oikawa reassured, and it was before Sugawara could mention that of course Oikawa hadnât, he had leaned forward to press his lips against the shorter maleâs.
He could imagine the time, ticking closer to the point of you wonât make it if you donât run. He ignored that fact, taking his time instead with what he had before him, with the soft lips that parted at the gentlest coaxing.
When he pulled back, Oikawa felt the color rising to his cheeks. He focused his attention on picking up his suitcase and adjusting the bag on his shoulder. âThanks for the present, Suga-chan!â he chirped, and he was out the door in an instant. He didnât stop until the elevator doors had closed behind him.
Sinking into a crouch, Oikawa groaned out loud. âOh my goddddddd.â Heâd⌠actually done it. Now he had an entire month to think about it, and to realize that maybe heâd made a terrible decision, and what was going to happen when summer ended and they returned to the shared flat?
In the end, it turned out that Oikawa wouldnât have to wait a month. In fact, he didnât have to wait even an hour, as he returned to the flat defeatedly at 5:55pm.
Heâd forgotten his ticket.
Sugawara didn't say anything, smiling at him as he set his things down by the door. He put a second cup of macaroni into the microwave before closing it.
