As a self-proclaimed foodie, it's literally impossible to resist the mouth watering temptations of food as I saunter through the streets of Hong Kong. The minute I get a whiff of something delicious like freshly made eggettes - that sweet smell of waffle batter being baked under precise heat conditions - I immediately pull out my wallet and buy myself a pack.
The same happened after I had lunch in Tin Hau with my grandmother yesterday. My stomach was heaving with large proportions of rice, dim sum and stir fries but I still managed to be tempted by the tantalizing presence of frozen yogurt. I must admit that I have an obsession with frozen yogurt because I loved ice cream and yogurt as a kid so frozen yogurt is like the love child of the two. The frozen yogurt shop in Tin Hau was called 'Sillyboo'. I was drawn by its clean, minimalistic outlook.
I ordered myself the original frozen yogurt with mochi, oreos and marshmallows.
I gulped down the beautiful, creamy white goodness in 5 minutes. Having tried many frozen yogurt stores in the past (Yo Mama, Berry Good, Best Berry, etc.), I found Sillyboo's frozen yogurt pretty good. It's much creamier and milk-tasting than the rest.
I thought the frozen yogurt had caved my sweet tooth but I was wrong. I proceeded down the street with a frozen yogurt mustache on my lips when a man from one of the nearby bakeries started shouting, "EGG TARTS! EGG TARTS! FRESHLY BAKED EGG TARTS!" while waving the buttery crusted tart under my nose. The luminescent yellow of egg tarts was aesthetically appealing as well.
I couldn't help but buy one. The custard was slimy and wobbly like a jellied version of creme brulee and the pastry crust tasted crispy and chewy.
Nothing like frozen yogurt and egg tarts!
