Dirk is the adoptive son of Breagan or Brett and Reagan both Kin Dirk Strider for different reasons
Something about Dirk being the adoptive son of Reagan and Brett makes so much sense to me I KNOW IT SOUNDS INSANE BUT HEAR ME OUT!! (I know that Dirk canonically would be about the age of Brett or Regan or maybe not because he will be born in 2408 I think… IT DOES NOT MATTER okey?? what I mean is that he has characteristics of both) Or Brett and Regan both read Homestuck and said "Hey I can relate to this guy" :
Dirk and Brett are all-American boys with absent families who raise themselves and have an exaggerated interest in puppets, seeing them as one of the main source of confort and support in their life, they both grew up surrounded by puppets and learned how to do it themselves. They have a special puppet that they trust with all their most private thoughts, dreams and hopes (lil Cal/lil Brett) they act like the puppet in question where alive and that ends up being a trigger for emotions becoming a key point in the story (Lil Brett is the only one capable of getting Brett to say what he wants and Lil Cal well Lil Cal is terribly complicated and confusing to analyze and explain but he has an important role).
Also Dirk and Brett are both conventionally really masculine guys obsessed with the whole Bro/frat vibe and try to maintain a facade that makes them look cool, even if Dirk isn't such a people pleasing as Brett, I think you can see some of that in him.
As for Reagan and Dirk, both are technological geniuses from a young age with little to none emotional intelligence and problems to express emotions or show care and with even more problems to have healthy romantic relationships in which they can be sincere and vulnerable with their partners, they always hide things from them and are unable to get straight to the point when it comes to their feelings.
While they may come across as unfeeling narcissists this is far from the truth, Reagan and Dirk despite the above are highly emotional and selfless people who seek the greater good, even if they often don't know how to get it in the best way, they have sacrificed themselves for others on many occasions (In the end of inside job Reagan first sacrifices herself for Ron and then for the whole team and ultimately for Brett, while Dirk practically does nothing else in the comic he is loyal to his friends above all else).
And what is the funniest coincidence to me is the similarity between creating an exact copy of your consciousness to speak to your friends for you and creating robotic arms to hug others for you. In situations where the easiest path is to learn how to relate to people they take the most complicated and twisted path possible full of elaborate robotics just to avoid socialize.
That’s it! I don't know where I'm going with this but I wanted to say it, plus it's been a while since I've read Homestuck so I'm probably going a little overboard with the Dirk stuff, anyways feel free to correct me or add whatever you want
