Shanghai Part 2: Silk Factory
The Silk Factory
Danny writes:
We are now at the very heart of the silk road, and at the centre of it all there is of course silk. In Fergana City we stopped off at one and learnt how silk is produced, all the way from the humble silk worm, to the finished fabric. It is a long and complicated process that involves drying out the worm inside its own cocoon, then boiling the cocoon to produce the fibre. The fibre is then wound together, dyed and woven into fabrics, some of which take years to produce. Photos tell a better story, so I shall post some next.
