Tang Yan and Wallace Chung in My Sunshine (Chinese tv series, 2015)
And all I can say is
This was so raw and he laid himself so emotionally bare and desperate that I think I have been de-aged by a decade as well as acquiring the blinding magic teeth of a toothpaste commercial.
I CAN’T!!!!!!

IS HE BITING HER SHOULDER TO MARK HER SO HE’D HAVE A REMNANT OF HIM EVEN IF SHE’S NOT AROUND AND SO SHE’D KNOW WHAT PAIN FEELS LIKE?!
The censors took the same nap they did for a bunch of other dramas I’ve seen recently.
But seriously, he comes home to find her with a bag and saying she’s leaving for Hong Kong and he totally flips to a “if this was real life, I’d tell her to divorce him and run but it’s fiction so eating it up” degree. Because he loses his mind and is all “omg she’s ghosting me again, this is a repeat of my college nightmare experience” and like HOLY FUCK YICHEN YOU NEED SO MUCH THERAPY!!!
And then you see the moment he realizes he lost his mind and his horror and just in rl, run girl, in fiction OMG MORE MORE MORE!!!!
Yup, it was a routine work trip and she forgot about it so that’s why she didn’t mention it and he’d have realized it wasn’t a runaway x 2 if he took a second to think it through as opposed to being triggered. I love how you see he’s so horrified at himself and his loss of control and sanity. It’s a drama so that is never going to happen but he needs serious serious therapy, not just true love.
This is delicious!
If self-loathing was currency, he’d be even wealthier than he already is.
And she takes his hand...
OK, I started Silent Separation and this is Wallace Chung in 2015, 6 years ago.
DOES THE MAN NOT AGE?! HOW?!
In real life, if someone suddenly accosts you in the darkened yard, it’s probably someone who should be locked up for 10-15, not your gorgeous ex-boyfriend who looks like Wallace Chung and who you never got over.
But hey, that’s what we have fiction for.
If that is the result of him seeing her come home after a meal with another guy, she should eat out with others more often.
(Yeah, it’s not exactly consensual since he ambushes her and she shoves him off but fictional consent has always interested me way less than fictional obsession and dysfunction. I mean...my favorite web novel of all time is 2ha!)
Got to say, Wallace is so good at looking like he would DIE if he couldn’t have his leading lady right there. Not to mention this is my fourth Wallace drama and third with against the wall make-outs (this, General and I, Too Late To Say I Love You. Alas, I don’t think the very proper Lingyi is ever going to shove Shiyi against the wall in The Sword and the Brocade.)
Next day:
This is the first contemporary cdrama romance I like. Perhaps because they are both definitely adults? I hate cutesy.
MMMMM more make-outs!
