Yesterday the Sikh Heritage Month can to a successful conclusion with a community reflection on itself, a panel discussion, tackling some hard questions - culture, social problems such as drinking, misogyny, history through storytelling among other issues. This event was held at the Winnipeg Art Gallery. The Committee also celebrated the achievement of having government of Canada officially declaring April to be recognized as Sikh Heritage Month. The Sikh Heritage Month Committee will be active throughout the year helping the community deal with the tough issues. Attended a talk at the CMHR titled The Sikh Gurus & Human Rights: 21st century Canada. Dr. Harinder Singh from the Sikhri organization in the US was the very enlightening and amazing speaker. He said that the Sikhs framework on Human Rights is ONENESS. “How can we become protectors of the voiceless people”. He said peace could not be guaranteed without a guarantee of people’s basic human Rights. He urged the Sikhs to become allies to the causes of the underprivileged and to work on projects that would change society for the better.
