This is one of the most unique and fun prompts I’ve ever received. Thank you so much, @sihah, and I’m sorry for how late this is! I hope you like it.

(Loosely related/similar to my Princess in the Suit of Leather AU piece Hidden in the Desert Sands.)

It had been another long day of brewing coffee and serving desert delights.

The prince had traveled far from his home to obtain the secrets and knowledge he so desired, but after falling out with both his wise and beloved uncle and the rival lord who sought his service, he struck out on his own, hiring himself out as a sellsword until his money and luck ran out.

He had been stuck in this small desert village, selling cups of finely brewed coffee and tea and small delights of pastries and fruit ever since.

No one in Niima Village knew that he was Prince Ben of Alderaan, and he honestly didn’t think any of the villagers would care, so little could he do for them with his lack of funds and contact with his family.

The years passed by, and Ben continued to work, using the name Kylo Ren. He tried to hire himself out when wealthier traders passed through, but they would not take him.

He felt his destiny calling him, but he did not answer, and sunk behind his dark robes and the bar of the coffeehouse. 

It had been a day like any other; the sun rose high in the sky, and the villagers sought shelter from the worst of it. The village was quiet, and then the unmistakable whinny of horses racing by could be heard. Shouts for water and wraps echoed through the quiet desert, and of a sudden, the small village was in a commotion.

A rare artifact had been spotted in the next village over, Kylo learned, and a battle had been fought for it. A young knight who served Master Skywalker had happened to be in the village searching for it at the same time the evil would-be conquerors had arrived, and somehow, the knight had gained the treasure, whatever it was.

That same young knight stumbled into Kylo’s coffeeshop, and put her helm down on a table to reveal a beautiful, lithe young woman.

“I am Rey, Knight of the Jedi Order,” she said to Kylo after he brought her a tall glass of water flavored with lemon, a plate of the bar’s finest pastries and fruit, and an old towel to help clean some of the sweat and blood off of her.

“I am sworn to protect the royal family, and I have been looking for the missing Prince Ben,” she continued, looking straight at him.

Ben’s heart stopped, and then continued to beat, thundering traitorously. His hands shook as he took the towel back from her and offered to bring her another with more water.

Don't worry about not getting Joseph's good route. The creator tweeted his is the hardest to get right, and there's some secret route shit going on there.
