House Doore is an established greater landed knightly house on a small stretch of land, about the size of a large city and its immediate environs. A keep looks over the lands, connected with a few roads, but no direct river access. One central town holds the majority of the land’s modest population, tied to several small food-producing hamlets. Doore had enough wealth to get by before the War of Five Kings, but furthering their station has proven cost-prohibitive. Crime is common but kept in control by a trained force of Doore soldiers, including cavalry.
The current lady has yet to name any heirs of significant status. Without any heirs, there is no one to extend the will and presence of the matriarch, and no way to improve the house’s standing through deeds and marriage. With fewer peasants to produce food, the cost to maintain law and order threatens to ruin the house this winter.
The keep is home to a craftsman of extraordinary skill whose work is sought after by those outside of the domain. Many see LoT the woodcarver as more of an artist than a craftsman. Her work decorates the keep and brings in coin for both herself and the keep.
HISTORICAL EVENTS
Founding: An advantageous marriage formalized a rough mountain clan into a landed knightly house shortly after Aegon’s Conquest.
The Decline: Due to a series of tragic losses, the house entered a period of decline after Robert’s Rebellion. This forced the late Wilkens Doore to name a friend as his heir, the remaining survivor of House Rune.
Our present time is after the War of the Five Kings, in which House Doore fought on the Lannister side.
