First of all religious imagery goes beautifully with Remus. I also think he has suffered greatly being neglected and ignored, he very much has been a rat in a cage. The group of lyrics starting with "Tell me I'm the only one" is very 'there's two of us and there shouldn't be. Plus 'And I still believe that I cannot be saved' gives me trying very hard not to care that his job was imposed on him and it's not his fault he's like this, but he's going to lean into it so hard bc that's what's expected of him, I wrote a little thing on that here.

"Poisoned by the secrets you're keeping" Remus is very anti repression, it's the whole reason he acts up. In this case I think Brutus is Patton and Roman and Thomas. Technically Brutus probably includes Logan and Virgil and Janus, but I think it's mostly the reason he split (morality), the piece of him that betrayed him (Roman), and of course Thomas for wanting to shut him away. The sides may do what they think is best, but they are also bound by Thomas's will and if he wants something to go away, Janus has to make that happen. Or at least he did. It's all very 'I was wronged and sealed away but now that I'm out I'm going to make it everyone's problem, you can't escape me'.

He just wants to be loved! (Accepted, needed, listened to, etc.) I imagine at some point he had to realize with dawning horror that the other sides were terrified of him and what he represented, but he can't help what he is and if they're going to hate him anyway, he might as well be all that he is.

He is one of them regardless of how they feel and he is very much the black sheep. So far all the others have had true moments of appreciation for their roles, acceptance by c!Thomas but Remus is still on the outside looking in. "Can't shut me up won't bite my tongue. Speak my truth till the day is done." Literally his whole thing is not shutting up bc his role is to draw attention and he has claimed himself perpetually honest (even if he changes his mind sometimes).
