Pairing: implied Frankie x Reader but really minor, almost No Pairing.
Rating: Teen
Warnings: some language.
Word Count: 1100
A/N: From the BACK IN ACTION prompt list which I had launched to give myself more practice writing action and promptly tried to avoid the action scenes at every turn. These last few are moving like Molasses.
The prompt was: A surprised stranger turned fierce protector. Thank you Nonny!

Frankie and Will were always the quieter two at the bar.
Benny was hooting and hollering at the football game on the TV. Santiago was a few shots in and laying the charm on a bartender like she was toast and he was butter. He seemed to be making headway. Good for him. But the recently single Will and the perpetually single Frankie were both quietly keeping themselves occupied as Tom looked on, looked around, kept his wayward little chickens from running amuck.
Will shook his head, “22%.”
Frankie grimaced a little, “Nah. Not that low.”
Will shrugged and tapped his head, “Man, I wish they’d go somewhere else but the numbers live there.”
Frankie sipped his beer, “40%...”
They were occupying themselves by watching the pool tables. There were three, they had next on, and they were watching other people’s games just to see if they could guess the outcomes. Frank and Will were the two with heads for numbers, quick math, odds.
The player scratched and Will smirked, “Wanna put some money on this?”
Frankie snorted-- he and Will wouldn’t bet with one another.
They watched and as the first game cleared out they approached the table.
“Wanna play?” Frankie suggested but Will looked noncommittal.
“Want me to spank you again?”
“Fuck off.”
She smiled up at him, big doe-eyes, blinking, half a cheap lite beer sweating all over her hand, “Can I play?”
Will eyed Frankie and subtly shrugged– your call.
Frankie held out the stick to her, “Sure thing.”
“I hear you say it was a money thing?” She was tilting her head to the side, held up a crumpled bill, “Do we bet?”
“We don’t have to.” Frankie offered, “I’m pretty good.”
She shrugged and put the money down, “Well if you win you can buy me a drink with it.”
He felt a warm thrill run up his neck and licked his lips, “Alright….ok, yeah, you’re on.”
Will rolled his eyes and patted his back Smooth, Fish. Real smooth.
The game started off sort of adorable.
Sweet even.
She nearly ripped the felt missing on one of her shots then giggled, Oh silly me.
It wasn’t until Frankie had three balls in that she looked at the board, leaned down, called a hard diagonal…
And sunk it.
“Oh wow look at that!”
Will’s hackles were raised.
Could be luck.
Could be.
Frankie wasn’t paying attention and was eyeing a shot until Will noticed he was lined up wrong.
Will caught his eye, whispering as he sipped his beer, “33%”
Frankie considered this and adjusted his angle.
Pool was a game of angles.
Averages.
Frankie was busy looking at her ass or her little dimple but he wasn’t really computing the math anymore and after she sank another hard shot and was lining up for a third Will pulled his man over.
Will’s brow furrowed, he switched to Spanish, “Tiburón.”
Fish looked at the table, shook his head, “Estas loco.”
Will shrugged, he wasn’t going to debate it.
Pope was taking an interest in the situation-- crooning to Frankie in Spanish about what he felt Fish should be doing to the lovely lady at the table. There were ham-fisting stick metaphors. It wasn’t Pope’s best work, but he had a bartender eating out of his hand and he was a little distracted.
Will looked at Tom. If Redfly said to intervene he'd listen but Red shrugged: let it ride, he'll learn the hard way. But Tom winked at Will and mouthed Tiburón.
Frankie suddenly was behind and realized it and then she just smirked at him, turned, and sank the rest of the balls all in a row– even at one point adding insult to injury by hitting the ball with the stick behind her back, not even kinda looking at it anymore.
“What the fuck….” Frankie realized he’d been had.
She was about to put her palm on the money when the doors opened and a loud group on a stag party came in.
It was hard to miss them.
Singing, stumbling, proudly telling everyone this was their fourth stop tonight and no plans on stopping!
“You gonna buy me a drink to ease the pain?” He asked. It was just a lost $20, he could get over that, but she shrugged, “Oh I dunno, I was thinking–”
"Hey! That's the little bitch from Gregg's!"
She noticeably paled.
"Sharked me for $500!"
Will slapped Frankie's elbow, an I told you so.
Santiago focused and whispered, “Wait did that guy just say five hundred?”
“Mmhmm.” Will confirmed.
“The fuck odds did she just play Fish for?”
“Only twenty.”
Santiago looked between Fish and the douchebags at the bar and shrugged, “Maybe she charges more for assholes?”
Tom leaned down between them, “Gentlemen, do you think we should intervene here? I mean….”
He pointed to Frankie who had stepped between her and the drunks, "Hey man...what's the problem?"
“This little bitc–”
“Hey now, be polite.” Frankie pointed across the bar where a slew of women were working either as bartenders or waitresses, “They don’t need to hear that.”
“What are you– the censorship board?”
“I’m just trying to see why you’re giving her a problem? She’s been sitting here all night.” He pulled himself up to full height and suddenly didn’t look so soft and gentle anymore. He got a tone to his voice. He subtly shifted his weight.
Benny was right next to him.
“There a problem?”
Will put down his drink and groaned a little– once Benny decided to step up if there wasn’t a problem already the odds of one happening increased sharply.
Benny had already tucked his shirt into his belt and put his hat on backwards.
Will had his thumbs looped through his belt loops, “There doesn’t need to be a problem because these gentlemen are clearly mistaken and should just go order their drinks.”
“Fuck you! I know what I’m looking at!”
Santiago and Tom eyed each other, nodded, and stepped on either side of the newly formed line.
The woman was slowly backing up to give a little distance. She hadn’t run, which Tom thought was nice of her.
Not that it mattered – Frankie had decided to become a human shield and now they were all in this together.
