I think I'm going with Serval for Claudius. It's a pretty regal looking animal, plus conflict avoidant, ambitious, manipulative... I'd say a good fit
(also a cat-type thing in contrast to Hamlet's bird type daemon)

And when they do something dull I'm going to say (in the same tone) "Straaaaaaaaaaight"
So I was wasting my life on shutuphamlet's blog and fell in love with the idea that Hamlet totally went through a guyliner phase and was totally into the Smiths in the '80s because he'd want to be alternative but still look like he knows what's up. And then I started laughing because I remembered that line where his dad makes a dig at his hair for how curly it is and/or how much he styles it and I just couldn't help picturing 1980s Hamlet rooming with Horatio at Wittenberg and taking for fucking ever in the bathroom because he couldn't get his curls to style like Morrissey's and Horatio being like 100% done with his primping.

I dont have the book on me but yeah I know which one you mean! the one that starts with "Here war is harmless like a monument" right, that your old blog title was from? I love that one too, and xiii to xv especially. also "as I walked out one evening" and "o what it is that sound", and yeah musee des beaux arts is lovely too! so sad though... all so sad. I will try to get more collections of his as well as journey to a war, hopefully if I can get to wellington soon and look through the secondhand bookstores 8)

omg me toooo jeez the collection I have has sonnets from china in it and I read almost the whole thing out loud to mum and she said "...aren't there any happy poems in that book?" the answer is no. no there are not
