►► PROMPT.
The first so many weeks living with the other world’s Kaworu are confusing. Shinji is tired from the events of his own world and isn’t quite sure what to with himself in this one. He spends a lot of time inside at first, unwilling to make his presence known to anyone but Kaworu out of fear of experiencing pain again. Kaworu has to nudge him out of his shell.
Shinji develops a small crush on Kaworu that he knows isn’t quite right, given that this Kaworu isn’t the same one he knows. But he clings to this small hope that maybe he can feel as good as he did when he met “his” Kaworu. And that translates back into butterflies in his stomach and hope for affection. Stupid Shinji.
He actually grows to be a little happier in this timeline than he was in his own, even though it’s disrupting the natural order of things. He isn’t pushed as hard, and he has Kaworu, who he feels is the only person who ever truly cared for him.
The only thing that really eats at him is that if anyone from his own world ever found out, he would never hear the end of how he ran from a whole timeline. But no one from that world is capable of finding him here, so he feels safer, and tries not to talk about that nagging feeling in the very back of his mind. Eventually, he tries to forget it all together.
Since he left behind everything but his music player in his own world, Shinji ends up taking up piano. He actually has a little more background in piano than he’ll admit to, which is what allowed him to transition to cello, as his teacher encouraged him to when he was younger. It doesn’t come as easily to him as cello did, though; he played for a bit, but couldn’t keep up with two instruments at once.
