𝙷𝙴  𝚆𝙸𝙻𝙻  𝚆𝙰𝙽𝚃  𝚃𝙷𝙴  𝙲𝙻𝙾𝚄𝙳𝚂  𝙽𝙴𝚇𝚃  ,   𝙰𝙽𝙳  𝚂𝙷𝙴  𝚆𝙸𝙻𝙻  𝙿𝙰𝚈  .   but  who  can  fault  a  man   ( just  a  boy  ,   really )   for  his  soft  addictions  ?  not  lucy  ,   not  with  the  way  he  looks  at  her  –   all  blue - eyed  like  she  is  something  better  than  she  was  before  .   more  beautiful  than  human  .

and  so  grateful  for  her  attention  ,   always  very  grateful  .

she  binds  him  to  her  side  with  alabaster  arms  ,   lying  in  a  field  of  grass  that  is  not  real  .   the  floor  of  his  mind  is  real  ,   but  it  has  been  bewitched  somehow  to  hold  a  different  picture  .   lucy  does  not  care  how  or  why  ,   when  she  has  the  mind  to  she  will  ask  .   but  at  present  she  has  only  the  desire  to  hold  him  .

❛❛      𝔞𝔯𝔢  𝔶𝔬𝔲  𝔟𝔢𝔦𝔫𝔤  𝔳𝔢𝔯𝔶  𝔥𝔬𝔫𝔢𝔰𝔱  𝔴𝔦𝔱𝔥  𝔪𝔢  ,   𝔪𝔶  𝔡𝔢𝔞𝔯𝔢𝔰𝔱  ?      ❜❜      grateful  in  turn  for  the  sunlight  even  if  it  is  still  cold  and  sharp  as  the  light  from  a  lamp  .

lucy  will  light  a  candle  when  they  are  done  daydreaming  .   and  she  will  hold  his  hand  near  to  it  and  tell  him  that  is  what  the  sun  feels  like  .   warm  and  soft  ,   like  a  quilt  laid  over  one’s  face  that  does  not  stop  one  from  breathing  .   

one  would  need  to  breathe  to  see  the  sun  ,   so  she  does  so  now  .

“Ah, yes. The emperor’s wrath. Try being terrifying when you’re not too pregnant to move, yeah?” Lane’s about to get a force punch to the face, Tahrin not being in the mood to put up with his shit but he’s brought chocolate and one of the only juices she can stomach, so she might be willing to forgive him. Maybe. 

If she wasn’t so busy freaking out about impending birth. 

“What am I going to do with twins, Lane?”

He makes a show of flopping down on to the couch next to her, sliding her feet into his lap, holding onto her ankles so she can’t escape the conversation. 

“Well, I’m hoping not eating them is high on your list.” He looks warped whenever he smiles and knows it. It’s probably why he smiles around her so often. “Raise them, Wrath. Love them, in whatever shape loving them comes. You’ve gotten better at that already.”

“Pierce and I-”

“I’m not talking about Pierce, I’m talking about everyone else. Jaesa, Vette, even Malavai although stars know he doesn’t deserve it half the time. And we’re all pretty sure that Broonmark is your favourite."  "Broonmark is, perhaps, my second favourite,” she says, watching as Lane’s smile spreads into a delighted grin. 

“Wrath’s got jokes!” He laughs, patting her shin as he settles more comfortably on the lounge. “Love isn’t just what you see on the holos, and I know you know this. You’re just freaking out because you’re worried about the war and having two babies instead of just one. Nobody’s going to let anything happen to them, you know that.”

He’s an agent, she has to read between the lines, but it doesn’t take much to get a little more comfortable, flicking her hand to turn the holoscreen on. 

“I expect you to do your part, Agent.”
