One of my favorite Christmas movies has to be this one right here
Not only is it a fun twist on the whole Santa structure
It also explores the Claus family dynamic in a way that felt real
Steve the oldest son is the most competent Santa there’s ever been. He basically runs Christmas for his father Malcolm aka Santa. He dreams of taking over the Santa position.
Malcolm is a nice dad who just can’t let go of the Santa title (even if he’s just become a Christmas mascot rather than the actual person in charge)
Arthur is the youngest and most festive of the bunch. He spends his time reading children’s letters and wants every child to feel included.
Gran Santa Malcolm’s father and the previous Santa is a man obsessed with his glory days. He drags Arthur out just so he can prove to his son and grandson that he’s still a competent Santa.
Watching Steve stress over making everything perfect is so older sibling of him. He is on paper the “perfect” Santa. Sadly this hasn’t helped his relationship with any of the men in his family and he developed an inferiority complex from years of little to no recognition from his father.
Malcolm in his defense is not a bad person just very clueless to how his actions effect those around him. He wants to hold on to the Santa title so much that he doesn’t realize he’s hurting his own son
Not to mention being busy as Santa for years made him a pretty absent parent to both Steve and Arthur.
Grand Santa holds a deep resentment to the new way of doing things. So much so that he recklessly drags his grandson out just to prove he’s still got it. His actions endanger everyone around him and almost got them killed multiple times.
Arthur is a clumsy but determined guy. He faces ridicule from everyone around him especially when compared to his big brother Steve. He knows what others say and think about him yet he keeps a positive attitude no matter what.
This movie is sweet and entertaining the whole way through. All the main characters are flawed in their own way but they’re still good at heart.
This movie is so special to me and hope it gets the recognition it deserves

Since I’ve been hearing so many mixed reviews I had to see this movie for myself
🚨***CAUTION SPOILERS ***🚨
I watched the trailer when it was released and like most people I was really questioning the animation BUT I tried to keep an open mind
I also wasn’t sure exactly what the plot was aside from “Evil king is greedy on who’s wishes get grant”
ALRIGHT ON TO THE REVIEW
Now it starts off as a storybook intro
The king Magnifico is the only one in the kingdom who’s able to use magic and grant wishes
Every month he does a wish granting ceremony for the citizens of the kingdom
The main character Asha is in the running of becoming the kings apprentice which is a nice change from another princess story
She wants to help make people’s wishes come true (especially her grandfather Sabino who just turned 100 but hasn’t gotten his wish granted)
Now this is where more of the whole “wish” concept gets explained
When Magnifico takes a persons wish they forget what their wish was. So Sabino doesn’t know what exactly his wish is
A persons wish gets taken either when they turn 18 or if they officially join the kingdom
Asha ask if her grandpas wish can be granted and is immediately shut down by Magnifico
Asha finds out that Magnifico has to approve of any wish that gets granted and Sabinos wish is considered to broad
His wish is to inspire the future generations and Magnifico argues that since there’s nothing specific he wants to inspire then the wish won’t be granted
In fact most wishes won’t be granted
This prompts Asha to question why Magnifico doesn’t just return the wishes so that people will remember them and work yo make them real on their own
Obviously Magnifico being the evil control freak he is hates the idea so Asha is officially out of the running for apprentice
Asha is upset but doesn’t give up and tries to tell her Sabino his wish
He gets upset that she’s disobeying the king and revealing that his wish will never be granted
Asha runs into the woods and wishes on a star which releases this light (?) over the whole kingdom
I have to hand it to Ariana DeBose because she did an amazing job with the songs in this movie
She was the only part I knew I’d love
After he wish is when star appears
Star wants to help Asha release the wishes and starts granting the wishes of the animals around her including her pet goat Valentino
Even though I was skeptical about the animation it all worked really well during the musical numbers
The colors were vibrant and reminded me of the older Disney animation so it was great to see
It still looked a little off during talking scenes but overall not bad
Magnifico realizes someone has made a wish and tries to hunt Asha down
Returning to the kingdom Asha gets her friends to help her get back into the Kings study so Star can grant Sabinos wish
Asha gets the wish back to her grandpa who is overjoyed to learn what his wish was
At this point Magníficos guards arrive to arrest them but they escape to a nearby island
Magnifico has resulted to using dark magic in order to maintain control
He realized he could harness the power of peoples wishes and starts stealing the wishes of people who questioned him
Asha gets betrayed by one of her friends but the others still decide to help her
Queen Amaya also switched to her side after seeing how corrupt Magnifico has become
The group attempts to release all the wishes but are overpowered by Magnifico
Asha inspires everyone in the kingdom to make their own wishes and overpower Magnifico
Once again the scene where Magnifico is about to lose really shows how well this animation style can work
The shapes and colors coming off the staff blend the 2D and 3D really nice and makes his defeat really fun to watch
Amaya becomes the sole ruler of the kingdom and everyone works towards making their wishes a reality on their own
Asha is given a magic wand by Star who later returns to the sky
Now did I love it ? No
Was it as awful as people say? No
The animation was lacking in areas but the musical sequences still held up and I really liked the blending of the two styles
The story itself felt a little rushed in areas but it wasn’t to bad
Magnifico as a villain was alright
I could tell they were trying to channel Scar and the Evil Queen especially during his song
It wasn’t bad but he felt very silly. I mean Scar was a sarcastic slightly dramatic villain but he was an overall serious and threatening presence
Magnifico was just an already douchey guy who got to much power and became even worse. Not very threatening but very showy
And this movie has a lot of callbacks to older Disney movies
A LOT OF CALLBACKS
I personally didn’t mind most of it but they kept pushing the fairy godmother thing which I thought was weird and a little random
They even gave her a cape that looked similar to the one the fairy godmother from Cinderella wore
It just felt like the movie walked the audience through everything
Obviously it’s a kids movie so the theme has to be obvious but it felt like it was just be recited by the characters
Make your own dreams come true stealing wishes is bad
That’s pretty much it
Overall it’s an entertaining movie for younger kids but that’s about it
Not one I’d go out of my way to rewatch or look for
People were overly harsh about the movie but I don’t regret watching one bit and neither did any kids in the audience
It was just as fun as the first and the characters were bigger and better
Was really worried they’d make Buster into some controlling uncaring manager type but he’s just as nice and optimistic as ever
Ash is off doing her own thing and guess what?? HER FRIENDS ALL SUPPORT HER
Johnny’s still hot (I said what is said) and it was nice to see how he dealt w his anxiety about the show
Rosita has her own struggles to go through but I’m glad to see her husband has stepped up and supports her 100%
Gunther my star finally got his own story, his role was pretty small in the first one so I’m glad he plays more of a role in this
Mrs. Crowley proves once again she is the BEST assistant ever
Meena is so cute in this !! She’s much more confident in herself but still has nerves when it comes to new ppl
She got a boyfriend this time and it’s so sweet how nervous she was even though she’s amazing, also appreciated that her whole story didn’t revolve around him and she didn’t have some “Omg with his support I can be confident and overcome anything !”
NOPE, she overcame her fears her own way then decided you know what ? I wanna go out w him
There’s so many new characters in this one and I can’t describe all of them but they all add something to the story and mesh well w the original group
Nana is also their biggest fangirl and actually motivates buster
The BEST part though has to be the interactions between the characters, you can see this time around that they all care about each other and know there’s always someone there who’s got their back
Only downside is Mikes disappearance is never explained but you forget about it pretty quickly
Some said it was great and others said it was horrible so I tried to keep an open mind
Overall I felt it was just…Meh
The beginning seemed promising enough with the little meet cute they had
But after that it quickly falls flat
When the characters Bea and Ben meet again they can’t stand each other
And while I love the enemy-to-lovers trope this just felt so fake
The characters are supposed to be annoyed and make snarky comments to each other which this movie did do
But it was to much. Bea and Ben would be standing there dissing each other for 5 minutes. It felt like they were two kids telling jokes on a playground more than people who actually hate each other
And their whole problem didn’t make sense?
Ben was mad that Bea left before he got up and Beas mad Ben was talking bad about her
Which can be a genuine communication error except Bea knows Claudia, Bens friend, and has told her what happened
And Ben has obviously told Claudia his side so why hasn’t this issue been cleared up by the wedding?
Yes by the time they meet again Bea is already engaged but still clearing the air wouldn’t be that hard?
Anyways Claudia and Beas sister are getting married so Bea and Ben are both invited to the wedding
Leads to a lot of the cheesy and overdone snarking
Claudia’s parents come up with the idea of getting Bea and Ben together so that they can avoid any fighting at the wedding
Beas parents also invite her ex fiancé and Claudia invites her cousin who broke Bens heart
Bea and Ben catch wind of the set up and decide to just pretend to be together to make life easier
This leads to typical fake dating antics but honestly I didn’t find myself rooting for it at all
I knew they’d end up together but I didn’t really care to see how
The leads Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell just didn’t seem interesting. I didn’t buy the “hate” so when they do get together it’s not really a big deal
Oh they really do love each other, cool.
Even the comedic relief best friend wasn’t all that funny
The best parts of the movie had to be the Australian duo and Alexandra Shipp as Claudia
Though I will say there were some parts that made me giggle like the airplane scene and the fire disaster but overall I can’t find myself watching this one again

I’ll be honest I didn’t have high hope for this one and I was still disappointed
The plot sounded funny enough
Girls insufferable boss starts dating her mom
I can see how that’ll lead to funny situations, yet I wasn’t laughing at all
Joey King plays Zara a twenty something assistant living in LA with her mom Brooke (Nicole Kidman)
Zara works for Chris (Zac Efron) a movie star. He’s whiny needy and makes her life hell
Somehow he ends up at Zara’s moms house where he meets Brooke
They quickly hit it off and Zara catches them making out in her moms room
She’s obviously upset tells him to leave and talks to her mom about it. Chris offers her an assistant producer position and promises to not be involved with her mom
It’s a lie and Chris and Brooke continue seeing each other behind Zara’s back
Brooke also helps write a new script for Chris’s movie
Stuff happens Chris and Brooke breakup Zara has a change of heart and gets them back together, yay
Honestly it wasn’t good but I guess I’d seen worse
It just felt like none of the characters were likeable
Zara was whiny and self absorbed
Brooke was this renowned writer, smart, well traveled. Perfect.
Chris was whiny, arrogant, and obnoxious
The fact that I’m supposed to believe that Brooke ended up with someone like him was a little confusing
Especially given how much she’s probably heard from her daughter about him
It would be one thing if he was just cold and strict but to be so childish and needy
Plus the chemistry was seriously lacking
Their little cute date montage felt more awkward than romantic
It was like watching two people with nothing in common forced to hang out
The thing that was bothering me the most was the way he kept commenting on Brooke’s looks “No way you have a 20 year old daughter, you’re way to young”
I love Nicole Kidman but her face was smoothed out like crazy in certain scenes
Not a single line in sight on her face
She looks good for her age but the constant “Woah look at how unbelievably young she looks” just brought attention to the over editing and the fact that she isn’t emoting the way she has before
Everyone was just annoying or eh so I really didn’t feel like I could miss anything important
It had a happy ending though so I guess there’s that
Now I was excited for Barbie (2023) but I was not expecting to get as emotional as I did
This interaction in particular came out of nowhere. I mean It’s a comedy movie so I thought this would lead to some random funny line but really it was this beautiful moment between women.
I also applaud Margot Robbie’s acting
The way her expressions go from Stereotypical Barbie to devastated was so real. The little “Oh.” she gave when she realized the girls didn’t like her was heartbreaking.
The movie was an amazing uplifting experience and even though Barbie wasn’t really my thing I’m glad I got the chance to go see it.
After Knives out 2 came out on Netflix I wanted to see another whodunit type movie and settled on this one
And I’ve gotta say this one was very very BORING
I mean it starts off simple enough. The elder daughter goes to visit her parents and when she gets there dad gets murdered
Those in the house are The mother, the grandmother, older sister, younger sister, maternal aunt, the maid, and the mistress
Secrets come out and everyone’s a suspect yada yada
Sitting through the movie I just couldn’t find myself caring for any of the characters
They were all so bland
I mean sure the aunt and grandma had their funny moments but everyone else was just there
Anytime something happened everyone just stood around talking about how shocking it was
And there was no investigating at all? One of them says something and they just accept it without question
“Oh the murderer is trying to frame us” then they just lounge around the house
There are moments that were supposed to be dramatic reveals but they never landed
Then they randomly have a scene where the mother smashes a glass over the grandmother’s head and puts her in a closet?? Which could’ve been really funny but just felt out of place and random
In the end it’s revealed the the younger sister and the father made a plan to stage the fathers murder so he could hear what the rest of the women thought about him
How ever they react would determine what they would get in his will
But before the father can make it to the notary he falls off the balcony and dies
So then the movie just ends?
That’s it
Besides some snippets of the characters taking and the end credits there was nothing
So 1 hr and 41 mins for nothing
It’s essentially a movie about these 6 women talking about this dead guy, with occasional suspenseful music
But I mean the wardrobe was nice so I guess it won in that area ?
