Dave Allen would be a fascinating interview subject, even if he hadn’t been a member of one of the greatest bands of all time -- that certainly doesn’t hurt, however. When I first met Allen (virtually, of course), he was fresh off the recent -- and by most accounts largely successful -- Gang of Four reunion. It likely didn’t come as a surprise that the bass player didn’t ride the reunion wave too long, he’s always been someone in search of the next exciting opportunity. By the time we crossed paths, he was on his third or maybe fourth career -- heck, he was only with Gang of Four for three years (and two nearly perfect records). Allen describes his current gig as “interactive strategist,” finding creative ways to help brands live online. As one might imagine, it’s been a long, fascinating ride from Gang of Four to here (including a couple more great bands along the way), and Allen does a great job telling it. Hell, I could listen to the guy talk about digital music rights all day. Thankfully for you, however, we cover a lot more ground than that.
