Repost from @mikecoots Dear friends, I need your help. Badly. Medicare is proposing to change its guidelines on how it treats amputees and the ability to get coverage for prosthetics. This will have a profoundly negative impact on amputees across America, and set back the standard of care to pre-1970's. This proposal will effect everyone with a lower limb absence, as even private insurance utilizes Medicare's coverage guidelines. This will include our veterans of war. Prosthetics are not a luxury but a necessity to live a normal functioning life. Some of the unthinkable changes include possibly not being covered if you walk with a limp. I walked with a limp for many years after losing my leg. Imagine being denied for that. Or if you use a cane or crutch to aid you, that's a cause for not receiving a prosthetic too. Here is how you can help. There is a link under my bio that has a easy petition to sign. We have gotten over 20,000 signatures in the last couple days, and if we can reach 100,000 by the end of the month it will be evaluated by our top policy makers. It is surreal how a tangible object like a prosthetic can be a catalyst of hope, joy, mobility and freedom. It is by far been the most important possession of my life. I would hate to see that limited or removed from fellow and future amputees. This would negatively change the lives of all; from toddlers to seniors, Hawaii to Florida, and everywhere in between.
