adore all your metas for the finale, i'm gonna miss wbl so much 😠but there's one thing i want to say which i haven't seen anyone point out in the tags yet (maybe u already thought of it for ur future meta), about shou yi and zhen xuan, and it's such a small touch that really made me appreciate what the writers/director put into this show. it's the parallel between yu zhen xuan's imagination of a life with shou yi (before he gives the box) to the glimpse of that (real) life we get just before the proposal. both scenes use a smooth one-shot, presumably filmed on a dolly (like train tracks for a camera), so that makes the parallel all the more obvious. but the thing that stood out to me was the differences between the scenes - in his imagination, the two of them dance around each other seamlessly. zhen xuan just fits in shou yi's work and life, and it has an almost choreographed feel to their movements as they move around the bar. and then ofc the dancing clips feeds into that too - they're perfectly and happily in sync. compare that to the proposal, where they have an almost painful moment of collision when zhen xuan gets the lemons - this is what real life is like. they're here, together, and it's not how he imagined it, not perfect and smooth but clumsy and faltering, and that's okay. they're working out where they stand, maybe they'll bump into each other a few times and stumble apart, but it's real and it's raw and that's just life. seeing this parallel gave me such a wave of emotion and affection for them two, especially zhen xuan, and like i said, i love the way the showrunners make everything so Real. sorry for the long ask...hope i made sense :')

Woah! I love everything about this, truly. Boy, does it make sense, and whoa am I loving it.
I really hope those small glimpses are a set up to explore those things in the future, but even if it’s not I love that it is already there in all those details, for us to find.
And yes, that’s what I imagine for future lessons, or lessons that are in there already, how life is less perfect than maybe imagination, but still so worthwhile, because it’s real.
How your relationships will be different than your imagination and expectations, but they will be real, and awkward, and include work and compromise, but you choose that to have it in your life.
A core message of the show for me. A take on love that might not resonate with everyone, who wants grand gestures and perfect dreams in their media content, but an authenticity which I for one, and you, too, it seems, dearest anonymous, are here for, so much.

cause i'm sure this is the first time zhen xuan does something like this and shou yi wasn't expecting it but still he didn't pull away, didn't push zhen xuan off
and what I wouldn't give to listen to every thought going through his mind right that moment cause it must be a lot for someone who doesn't understand feelings.
all i know it's that's not nothing in his eyes, he doesn't know what it is and he most likely doesn't understand it but it's definitely not indifference. A lot of people paint him as coldhearted but he's far from that and i can't wait to see more of this side of shou yi
still thinking of Pei Shouyi getting a variety of noodles but the moment Zhenxuan chooses his favorite the he's all "well it's time to stock up!"
