Martín says that he's not "some nerdy engineer" and sure, he does want more than to sit in a dark office and do calculations all day, but also, he is a nerd: He was in utter awe over the construction of the Bank of Spain safe; he is stone-cold brilliant, having come up with a way to break into it. This whole thing didn't start for him because he was already living a life of crime, had nothing to lose and liked the idea of pointing guns at people. It started because he fell in love. He fell in love with a man who stole diamonds and talked about it like it was art. So Martín tried to create art for him: He used his vast intellect to form a poem out of hundreds of calculations, not thinking about what could happen to him because he was only focused on Andrés. He wasn't made for the cross-fire he ended up in and he didn't want to be there; not without the man he loved.
