The pavement around her cracked and shook with the rhythmic pounding. As large white clouds passed overhead, a faint gold shimmer danced across a brilliant blue sky, only noticeable for a split second before disappearing without a trace. Hollowed skyscrapers, ruins of a once great civilization rose up all around her, monuments standing in defiance of the fate that befell their creators.
The pounding stopped as the more immediate threat eclipsed her view. Two yellow circles dotting a metal sphere turned red as a metallic hand wrapped around her neck. Cold steel squeezed, but only enough to ensure a firm grip. The rest of her body hung limp, unresponsive even though she knew well the danger she was in. The pounding of the machine’s rhythmic steps resumed as it dragged her body behind it. Heavy metal groaned with each step, followed by the sound of cloth being dragged across concrete. The Android’s eyes fluttered for a moment, before closing once more.
When next her eyes opened, she was greeted by a metal paneled ceiling. A familiar, electronic hum permeated the air around her. She brushed a stray lock of blonde hair from her face with a new felt-gloved hand. Through a viewport next to her bed, large white clouds swirled against a brilliant blue ocean as stars shimmered against the black expanse that filled the rest of her vision.
“Diagnostics complete. Welcome back to the Bunker, Two-Seven... You’ll get’em next time.”
