I got the chance along with my friend Sera Lawrentz to eat at Shopsin’s while I was living in New York. I had watched the documentary film about his Shop and his family. The film was called, I Like Killing Flies. I knew what to except and we were lucky enough to have him and his son prepare our food. The menu was true to the film. It was 20 pages of Kenny Shopsin’s cooking brain. Kenny Shopsin died this past Labor Day weekend. (I like Killing Flies, 2004)

A documentary about an eccentric diner in Greenwich village, "I like Killing Flies" is a good film. It has interesting characters centralized by the owner and cook who has an interesting outlook on life. But, my hesitation comes with the presentation. The film is produced and looks like a student film project for NYU. That said, I am definitely going to Shopsin and sample some of its disgusting 900+ menu items.
