Welcome to another âscrounging for scrapsâ build.
For a long time now, my workbench shelf has been supported by a yellow crate with some boards on top. Itâs been fine, but the crate was starting to deform under the weight of the shelf. Iâd been meaning to replace it with some real supports, so today I scrounged around my shop and put something together.
The wood I used was from the packing material that my new dishwasher came in. Iâd set it aside once I had installed the dishwasher, and it was the perfect thing for this project. The little shelf is made of some leftover plywood I had and the brackets and screws were sourced from my stock.Â
I had to make a leg for the outer corner of the plywood shelf because the plywood wasnât strong enough to support my Audio Generator. I used a leftover piece of the wood and added 2 screws on the bottom (7th picture) so that the height was adjustable. After the whole thing was assembled, I fastened it to the shelf with L-brackets and screws.Â
The last 2 pictures show the before and after. Iâm pretty happy with how it turned out. Itâs more structurally sound than the crate and gives me a bit more storage as well. If I ever wanted to get fancy, I could stain it to match the shelf above, but I didnât feel like that was really important right now.
