"Jump didn't name them anything . "The Big Three" is a western cultural construct built around the anime and manga that were most prominently available to us at a specific moment in time. It's only really useful in understanding how the English fandom developed after the late-90s anime boom.
The "big 3" are definitely culturally significant in Japan, but Stand-era Jojo, Yu Yu Hakusho, and Hunter x Hunter were just as influential in the evolution of early "magic martial arts" shounen (ie. Fist of the North Star, Dragon Ball, Saint Seiya, Hamon-era Jojo, Ranma 1/2) into the modern concept of battle shounen. And if we're talking readership measured in per-volume sales, Jump's heaviest hitters at that point in history were One Piece, Dragon Ball, and Slam Dunk, followed by Yu Yu Hakusho, then Fist of the North Star, then Naruto in 6th place.
