DarcyxCoulson ShockingSecret | The Devil is in the Details.
There was more to the job than she bargained for. Somehow, working for Coulson felt like maybe working for a ghost. Not quite there, just someone haunting her work when she least expected, and that was what she assumes. Coulson was much too busy to oversee every little thing she did.
This was not the case at all.
She found out by the second hour of the first day that he's there and he's aware and he's watching and it was not like working for a ghost, it was like working for god or something instead. Always watching, haunting her work when she least expected and every second in between.
She was driven mad by the end of the week.
She was used to it by the second month.
She was missing it when she was sent to Norway and he was kept in the States. Her old boss became her new boss and it was there, in the cold labs in a foreign country that she began to notice what she missed wasn't his constant supervision.
It was the coffee he would bring her when she stayed late to finish filing reports. It was the way he brought a set of speakers for her ipod to hook into so when she was stuck in his office working they could listen to her Fleetfoxes album. It was the way he replaced her taser with the latest in police grade quality and then got her the licence to go with being able to carry it.
The devil is in the details. She only wished she paid more attention when he was there, in the flesh, hand inches from her own as he bent over her latest typed up reports to make sure there were no mistakes. She only wished she looked up when he tilted his head low to pretend to read, she only wished she noticed the way he noticed her perfume or the way she licked her lips in anticipation of him asking her to re-do her work.
She only wished all too late while sitting on her knees in front of a grave, listening to White Winter Hymnal as a crisp, fall breeze sent chills down her spine.
