The (mid)week in review - Shitacular edition
Of course there are the events of today, which we will get to, but there's also the previous few days.
As far as work has been, it's not too bad. Just work. My boss is back in town, so I don't have to worry about doing his duties anymore. For a little while, at least.
On top of that, I've been really stressed due to the apartment search lately. I have to find a new place, because my lease expires in less than 2 weeks! As a result, I've been having a ton of trouble sleeping. Maybe getting just a total of a few hours per night so far all week.
Though, I've applied for and put a deposit down on a new apartment this afternoon. I should hear back by early next week whether or not I get it. While the good news is I might have a place to move to that has a cheaper rent (with a 15-month lease), the bad news is it's pretty much just a lateral move. The "new" complex is maybe a mile from where I currently am, and isn't any better than where I'm at. But I will be saving money, for close to the same thing I currently have. The other problem is I can't move in before October 1st. Which is the after I have to be completely out of my current place. So, I'll have to get all my shit moved out of here, stored for a few days while I clean this place up, and spend a night or two at my mom's house far on the other side of town.
Which bring us to today. Driving down the freeway to work at about 6:30 in the morning. Traffic was actually moving at about 60 mph; I was making good time. Then, the engine just stops turning and my truck just coasts down the road. Luckily, I was in the left lane and moving fast enough that I could get over the space between the main lanes and the on-ramp and out of everyone's way. A few minutes later a cop just happened to pull up behind me. Though, all he did was push my truck farther over on to the shoulder in the grass, to a "safer spot," then he drove away. Called DPS roadside assistance. Took over an hour for them to show and tell me they couldn't help. Called the insurance company and a tow truck. Waited for over another 2 hours for that guy to show up and finally take me and my truck to the auto-shop across town that an old friend of mine manages. Got picked up, borrowed my mom's car, then took her to rent one (for herself, because she gets an AARP discount), and I have hers for the next day or two until my truck is fixed ... again.
And here we are. The end of a miserable Wednesday. Just hoping the rest of the week/month/year/life gets much, much better.
You don't think you could give me a few grand, so I can actually pay off all these auto repair bills I now have, do you?
