Moana grinned at Loto.
“That's another upside to doing homework in coffee shops,” she teased. Her classmate shot her a bewildered look.
“Strange phone numbers?” Moana snorted lightly.
“It's the barista's number. They're flirting with you.”
“Oh.” Loto grimaced awkwardly. “...And I decline how?”
“Just don't call or text,” Moana shrugged. Then, worriedcurious, she asked, “So are you like… only into a specific gender or…?”
Loto made startled eye contact.“Oh, um- romance isn't really- a thing that is going to happen for me.”
“Oh! Shoot, sorry, shouldn't have assumed,” Moana grimaced.
“It's fine,” Loto shrugged.
@thehighpriestessofcuddles
where are the Moana x Loto shippers I need to infect them with my dad joke-tier ship name and otherwise interact with someone else who is as obsessed as I am please
PART. SIX.
that's right triple update today. I'm awesome.
pt 5
Moana does not know what the whole solution to this situation is, but she knows step one is gonna look something like “basic care”, as per the info packet with the aggressive highlighting. She follows Loto into the kitchen and murmurs to her that I'm gonna get us some breakfast, okay? Loto doesn't really respond, but eating an actual meal for the first time in almost a week will almost absolutely help with that (right?).
Moana heats water on the stove for the instant oatmeal she'd bought when she realized she'd be staying for a while. Normally it'd be a microwave thing, but she needs something to do if being present is the maximum comfort she can reasonably expect to not backfire right now, and past experience tells her it is.
Unfortunately. Smells. Loto cannot do Smells right now.
Oatmeal gets thrown out the window because Moana is willing to buy a new pot if it comes to that. She switches to leaning on the counter next to Loto and fidgeting with her hands.
Loto doesn't really understand what's going on. She's not sure what happened, she feels like crud, her brain is not taking sensory input well, and something not her wants her near Moana who is right there and it's a deeply distressing sensation.
Moana edges closer. Here, you only need to twitch and I'll be there.
Loto can feel the temperature with her face what in Lalotai-
(Yeah she really needed some more sleep.)
Moana runs out of patience. She pulls Loto into a hug.
Loto buries her face against a shoulder until all she can smell is Moana, and can't tell whether she or the curse did it.
haha get bat sense'd

pt 4
Loto wakes up groggy and disoriented. Her teeth ache, her head hurts, her mouth tastes awful and metallic, things are making too much sound and they smell, and she generally feels icky, and then alarmed as she realizes she's slept leant against Moana, Moana who's she's friends with, and the curse- the curse! She can't have friends- there's a bandage on Moana’s hand- gods, what happened?
Moana wakes up with her own headache, though hers is from mild blood loss. (The GP is already preparing a prescription for a stronger magical blood supplement.) Her first instinct at seeing a distressed Loto when she herself is sluggish and tired is to pull her into a hug and murmur something vaguely intelligible into her friend’s hair. She is not awake enough for this.
Loto wants to protest, this can't be safe, she can't be safe, she knows, she knows she isn't safe, she should go-
But she can't. She can't get a word out, because she knows what's coming, what has to be coming, but she still wants to stay. And Moana's still there right now, holding her for reasons unknown and whispering comforting nothings, and she maybe just wants to stay there forever and not have to face anything ever again.
Eventually, Moana sighs and nudges her. “Okay, we do have to get up.” Loto blinks back tears and rises shakily. Moana grabs her arm to support her, and she flinches.
Turns out activating a vampirism curse will absolutely drain the heck out of you, so Loto can't stop herself from crying. Moana looks at her blearily and tentatively pulls her into another hug.
Loto.exe has stopped working.
They stand there for a while, Moana still holding on to her until she can dam up the tears and keep going.
Loto heads to her kitchen. She stares at the meal schedule hung on the humming fridge that she can feel the cold coming off of like it's written in third century Chinese and asks what day it is.
The twenty-fifth, Moana tells her. It's been six days.
She can't do this right now. She can't do this.
Go back to sleep girl, the guy who failed trade school isn't done rewiring your brain
Haha I hope I am not failing characterizations. Anyways @thehighpriestessofcuddles I summon thee. Keep an eye out for parts 5 and 6 coming soon!

Moana watched a particularly bold crow land on Loto's arm to get to the peanuts ahead of its flock. Loto cawed back at it scoldingly, shaking it off its perch.
“You know,” Moana called, “I bet there's a spell to understand crows out there-”
“No!” Loto jerked, spilling too many peanuts into the tray feeder. The nearest crows took off in surprise. Hastily, she corrected herself, “I mean- no, thank you. No thank you. No spells on me. I'm good.”
Moana blinked.
“Okay then.”
“Okay,” Loto echoed. She started scooping extra peanuts back into the bag. “Okay.”
pt 3
