Sitting in their bed as Gareth got ready for whatever office Christmas part he was forced to at least make an appearance at Wendy couldn’t help but chuckle. Not that the man she loved was a Scrooge per say, but their ideas of festive were very different. What had started out as smuggling in a single tree, had evolved over the years into a relatively ridiculous amount of Christmas décor around their flat. Though she knew he did it only for her own love of the holiday, and he’d do anything to see that sparkle of pure and unbridled joy in her eyes…….. Even if it meant letting her vomit Christmas over him.

Wendy had given him a look, of almost annoyance at the outfit he now wore. It was his every day suit with a tie. On that tie happened to be the smallest of Christmas that one could barely notice.

Her nose scrunching in annoyed amusement when he made his way over to her with a kiss on her forehead before she chuckled at his question.

“Is my outfit not festive enough?”

“Festive….. You mean the microscopic Christmas tree that will be hidden the moment you button up your suit jacket?” she teased softly. As if to feign ignorance he buttoned his jacket.

“So it does.” He sighed with a bit of triumph to his lack of too much festive cheer. “Too bad I don’t have anything else.”

“Lucky for you I went shopping!” Having thought he won until Wendy pulled out from under her pillows two very different items. In one hand there was the ugliest of Christmas sweaters, so mortified that it even lit up with Christmas lights. In her other hand, a simple blue ties with snowflakes covering it so he couldn’t hide it with his suit jacket.

“You can even pick!” It was without hesitation that he grabbed the blue tie, Wear the blue….. It brings out your eyes. The memory pulling back into his mind. She had never intended for him to wear the ugly sweater, and come to think of it the size was too small for Gareth anyway. It was always the blue tie. He chuckled as he had fallen hook line and sinker to her little game, and he loved every second of it. Moving to stand she helped push his jacket off, and removed his less than festive tie, and replaced it with the blue snowflakes. Straightening it with that unbridled spark of joy dancing in her eyes.

“That wasn’t so bad no was it?” she asked him.
