Thinking about how Kanae hadn’t seen the stars since she was 8-9, until she became a god eater and saw the unclouded night sky on a mission.
Glare from spotlights, signal lights on the ever towering den and the anti-aragami walls blocking out what little she could see from her window in the orphanage, when she was allowed out it was always daytime, and she didn’t dare try to sneak out further than the halls at night without reason.
When she had her first mission in the temple, she was completely blown away by how bright, clear, beautiful the stars up there were, the moon looked huge, big and bright. She was in complete awe. Sakuya and Lindow both teased her a bit about it, but warned her to stay focused, the mission isn’t over until they were home. aragami could show up at any moment and she shouldn’t be too caught up by the view. Though both of them thought her childlike wonder over it was somewhat adorable.
Even after, she admired the sky. she remembered the stories her mother told her about “the princess on the moon”, songs made of the tale. she later recounted those stories to Shio when she found the books they had come from. and on their food runs together Shio watched the sky and would frequently comment how tasty the moon and stars looked in between their(mostly Shio’s) playing and singing as they waited for extraction. Kanae cherished those memories, even though now those memories held an ache.
Now, when she sees the sky, moon. She thinks of the brave little girl who saved them all. A friend forever even if apart.
